Crunch Time

Discovery School is hosting the only professional development program in Honduras for educators next weekend, and all the teachers at Discovery are required to present a workshop. agh! I'm presenting on math games and projects for high school and I'm super nervous. We're in crunch time right now because the workshop is really stressful, we just finished parent/student/teacher conferences, and everyone's trying to get a lot of stuff done before the holiday break. I've definitely been feeling the stress lately.

I'm sooooo glad it's Friday because we are just finishing with a 5 day week, which is always tough on the students and teachers. My good friend Antonio's birthday is today, so we're having a big party at the pool house (where all the other gringo teachers live) with a BBQ, a yummy cake, and a pinata. It should be fabulous. This will be the fourth weekend in a row that I haven't left Tegu and it's making me a little claustrophobic. I think I need to go camping soon and just get out in the wilderness. I guess I've never really lived in a city as big as Tegucigalpa and it's a bit rough on me. I've been looking for a house to rent with my friend Melissa so that we can have a bigger place and so that I can get a dog. My ESL student's dog is going to have puppies soon, and he offered me one of them, and I would LOVE to have a dog. But, we'll see.

Other things in my life...My spanish is getting so much better! I can communicate with people very well now and I can understand about 60% of what people say (when they speak slowly, I can understand about 85%). I'm taking salsa classes twice a week now, which is awesome! I can dance both parts (mujer y hombre) and I'm having a really good time with it.

Okay, there's not really much else going on here, so I'll write another time. Hello and I love you to everyone!

Alice
