The First Week Is Over

Well tomorrow I can rest easy knowing I won't have to get up and make the long trek to P-Sac.

The first week was fine, I guess. I missed my two most important classes the first day cause I was an idiot and had planned everything out based on last year's academic calendar. So that was a bummer, but as a result I've been trying to be extra organized.

This is what I'm taking. French 1, Intro to Art History, Women in Art, and History of Design.

French is ok. I hate learning languages since a part of my mind kind of figures the people worth talking to in my sphere of influence are the ones who know english, but thats just my crazy white person side speaking. Potato in french is pomme de terre. It means apple of the earth. How evocative.

Intro to Art History turned out to be kind of an accident. It's a really basic general ed kind of class. Its an overview of art from the Renaissance to modern day and I know most of it already and its geared towards non-art majors so I'm definitely the odd duck out. On the upside, that means I'll OWN at it. Also its kind of fun cause my teacher is kind of apologetic on the bizarre nature of the more intuitive works. Its nice to see someone in the art world acknowledge the absurdity of some of the pieces.

Women in Art is full of feminist discussion. I'm expecting to turn them on their heads when I pop out my opinion on the glory of wifeyness and motherhood.

History of Design... Is my favorite so far. We get to write a blog on design and it covers so many topics from movies to fashion. We started off the first day by watching the beginning of 2001:Space Odyssey and writing about the production design that went into it. Now I see design everywhere, and for the final project I'm going to make a timeline about art nouveau design and influence.

Anywhoo, I need to make friends. I'm scared of the engineer and science majors in bldg 4, the rotc people all look alike, and the cop students in the other building intimidate me, so I'll probably just stick with my own artsy kind.
