Feeling good today! Not half so emo and dreary.
Went to church! It was very nice. I like having a church service that's exactly 65 minutes long. All the college-age kids who were attending over the summer are gone though. There's not enough left that I can hope for a college or singles ministry to pop up soon, but all the same I'm going to the small group introduction night in a month to see if there's one for an oddity like me.
If not I'll just have to try Downpour I guess. Even if I have to be around dirty dirty METHODISTS. I kid... I kid...
After church Alex and I put on our swimmy suits and scampered down to the beach. You folks all down in Orlando may have Disney and Universal, but we have the Gulf of Mexico! God's big wet kiss on the western hemisphere. In other words, you're landlocked. We're not. So there....
That sort of made me feel less lame.
The water was super calm today so I pulled my floaty out into the water and let the waves bob me up and down. We took turns seeing how deep we could dive under the water and tried to catch fish barehanded (incidentally, it was actually easier to kick the fish than to grab them). Then we started to build a sandcastle but we had artistic differences so Alex started to build a sand residency of the head of state while I added all the gothic towers I wanted to the castle. I also found a rusty New Hampshire quarter. Mom wandered down too for a while, but then it started to rain, which was all well and good until the thunder and lightening came too. And that was my day for the most part.
I found a typewriter in the storage shed (a circa 1950's Olivetti Lettera 22-- the same kind used by Sylvia Plath!) and I've taken to writing short vignettes or stream-of-conscious monologues on it. Its really satisfying watching words get stamped into a sheet of paper. More fun than sticking pixels on a screen. And the bell that goes off when I reach the end of a line is delightful! But gosh darn it, sometimes you really gotta whack those keys. Its a muted teal, which is a totally boss vintage typewriter color.
In other news... Ana is back! We're gonna hang out soon so I can regale her with tales of my cuh-razy life. These stories include me sitting alone feeling sad, multiple viewings of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and one quirky story of a CVS co-worker's reputed "junk".
