Captain Bligh's Revenge

Dear Ernesto*

I can well imagine how disappointed you must have been, that Yuletime some years ago, when you unwrapped your present and found yourself gifted with a book. Just what were Reggie* and Joe* thinking? It was not what you wanted! The pox on their houses!

You could’t have cared less. You cared so little, actually, that you didn’t even bother to open the book. Which, in hindsight, was a really stupid thing to do, because if you had shown just a modicum of manners and appreciation for the kind gesture of the people making you that present, you’d found the envelope, the card, their kind words - and the money. Because the book came with a little extra, you see.

So - bad luck, Ernesto, and huzzah for second hand book buying. The money was passed on to somebody who really needed it, and I hope that, when Reggie and Joe eventually found out and told you, they greatly exaggerated the amount in the envelope!

*Names have been changed, because I’m not that mean.
