Blessed Samhain, Happy Hallowe'en, and a LJ Information

One of my favourite Mutts cartoons... it's Buttons to a T.

Blessed Samhain and a Happy Hallowe'en, everybody!

I'm down with a cold on top of my slipped disk, so I'm considering pinning an "Orlop" sign to my front door. dieglasperle is having the sniffles and coughs as well, so it's party time for the cats, as their favourite entertainers are trapped at home. Lots of trick'n'treating going on here...!

And now for LJ: I haven't been happy with many of LJs actions in the past, but as you can tell, I'm still here, though crossposting everything from DW. I've had a look at the new friend's page, and didn't like it at all. I find it hard to read with all that white space, and it's another step towards Facebook/Tumblr. Also, the infinite scroll freezes my screen; I have a very fast internet connection, so that could be a real issue for some users.

The real news for me was this one, though: come next spring, LJ will abandon paid accounts. Edit: Clarification regarding paid accounts by LJ.

Edit to edit: LJ's clarification, especially in light of recent interviews given by LJ executives in Russia, doesn't change my view about the way LJ is heading. As for the paid accounts, I want to see the new product first before I pay for it.

LJ's terms of service very clearly state that any services bought are non-refundable. So if your LJ should be up for renewal soon, you might want to consider switching off automatic payment, and maybe only pay per month (or not at all), before you spend money on something that will be free soon and which you'll never get back. I haven't renewed erestor (which was a paid journal for nine years).

The end of paid accounts, as well as the new friends-page and the free-for-all-scrapbook are a significant move towards "social networking", and it will very likely mean the end of "no advertising". I'm very sceptical the much-coveted new audience by LJ will go for it, though; LJ isn't cool enough...
