Back! Convention! A Ginger Pony! And a Wedding!

So much dust and cobwebs; LJ really isn't very houseproud. I'm back, and the site still doesn't work. I can't read my f-list (only half the page loads), I can't add any lj-cuts (only the first paragraph stays behind the cut) and user names are still getting jumbled. Well, I have an alibi, it wasn't my fault, heh.

The first half of my holidays went down the drain due to medical reasons; the less said about that, the better. The second half, however, was stellar. Me and Miss C. attended the "Captains Table" convention in Germany and had a fantastic weekend with, well, three captains. Not Collingwood, Nelson and Moore, but Picard, Janeway and Sisko. Eh - Pacific, Atlantic, space - I'm not picky when it comes to ships. (I'm now the proud owner of a picture where Miss Molly Joyful is hugged by the commander of Deep Space Nine. Woohoo!)

It was a lovely con; due to the small size and the limited number of guests, there was no hurry, and no risk of missing something. As I'm not into autographs, I had a lot of time to meet up with old friends (hiya,
bimo, it's been fantastic meeting you again!) and sample various varieties of German cheesecake.

The panels were interesting, ranging from the higly professional (Sir Patrick Stewart) to the passionate (Kate Mulgrew, who, among other things, referred to Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann as "broads". Can't really argue with her there) to the highly philosophical (Avery Brooks). You can see some pictures here.

Benjamin Sisko is my favourite captain; I love DS9, and I was rather miffed when the audience gave standing ovations before the panels of Kate Mulgrew and Sir Patrick Stewart, but not before the one of Avery Brooks. As one fan whined about his panel: "But I paid to get entertained!" Waaah! The evil man on stage forced me to think! Twits. It was a very inspiring, very touching panel. Oh, and I was very happy to learn that Avery Brooks' uncle was one of my beloved Delta Rhythm Boys!

What else? My office has officially been put into active service (8 pages of a new Norrington-story, one WIP finished. Yay!)

Somebody sent me a picture of Damian O'Hare as Dr. Burnett as My Little Pony. I'M NOT KIDDING YOU!

Last but not least, lovely news to come home to: the very dashing Andrew Buchan is getting married to long-time girlfriend Amy Nuttall! Darn, there go all my hopes... ;^) All the best and only happiness to them!
