TV: Tips and Non-Tips - Andrew Buchan, James D'Arcy, Being Human USA

Jun 05, 2010 23:05

My inner hausfrau made a short appearance today, and as a consequence, I sit here with two delicious tartelettes aux fraises (still warm) and a mug of Irish breakfast tea with honey. And in case you think this was neither of importance nor interest: you are perfectly right. That's why I don't get why Twitter is so successful! Anyway, before I take a little break from LJ to finish some books and enjoy life in general, I have some TV tips and news for you.

"ABROAD"

Liane Balaban as Amy Pearce, Sally Phillips as Jemima Green
Andrew Buchan as Billy Marshall, Daisy Haggard as Poppy Young

According to the website, this is the comedy pilot for a series:

"A young Canadian girl struggles to decipher the ways of the English - especially the men - when she comes to London to take up a junior position at the London Post."

You can watch the trailer here.

The young Canadian girl in question is 30, therefore a woman and referred to as American in the trailer. Eh, semantics.  She's refreshingly different from the usual female leads we see on TV, and the trailer looks like popcorn fun of the good kind. She seems to waste her time with some smarmy git, who eventually gets called a posh prick and punched right in the face by Andrew Buchan. No idea what it's all about, but - score! I haven't seen the movie yet and don't know whether the TV series has any chance of getting produced, but hey, stranger things have happened. And of course I come bringing screencaps:

There's also the pilot for a sci-fi series called "The Fades", featuring Andrew Buchan and Daniela Nardini (Anna from "This Life", yay!) - don't know what this one will be about yet.

And now for something completely different:

JAMES D'ARCY TO STAR IN "W.E., MADONNA'S SECOND DIRECTORIAL EFFORT"

D'Arcy takes center stage as King Edward VIII in the pic about the affair between the British monarch and Wallis Simpson that led to Edward's abdication of the throne to marry the American divorcee in 1936.

Producer Colin Vaines says, "We've found the right cast for this picture. The addition of James is wonderful as he's got such charisma and possesses a regal quality that he can capture."

In other words: James D'Arcy has all the qualities Edward VIII, a racist who sympathised with the nazis, lacked. But a good director certainly could take this and...  wait a second: who's directing again...?

BEING HUMAN, US REMAKE

Finally, some details emerge. I never saw a reason for a remake of  "Being Human"; the original is still on the air, and I think the US audienceis perfectly capable of understanding and enjoying the original. If the discussions in various corners of the internet are anything to go by, the US audience doesn't see the point, either.

This is what we know so far:
  • The show will be set in Boston but filmed in Canada (what a surprise!)
  • Casting-wise, werewolf and vampire seem to be male and white. Nothing about the ghost yet.
  • Werewolf George will be renamed Josh, while the vampire Mitchell will be Jewish (George the werewolf in the original show is Jewish, too)

I'm waiting with morbid curiosity for the cast announcement... and as we're already talking about casting: could somebody please cast Jack Davenport in something that doesn't tank? Thank you. And soon, please. I miss him.

Molly over and out. Bye, my dears, have a good time!
