Yesterday we were going through a picture book, and Z started repeating words back to me in French. He said "beurre," "oeuf," and when we went downstairs, he repeated "en bas."
Despite the fact that neither of us has taught him the word, nor is it included in any of the "colors" episodes of his favorite videos, Z has learned the word "gray." He asked Aaron for the gray crayon last night, flooring us both.
Today we went outside and I said, "Z it's a beautiful day!" and he signed "day." I don't think he knows what a day is, but he knows the sign for it! Then the neighbor's dog started barking, and Z exclaimed, "doggie!" I asked, "What does the doggy say, Z?" and he replied, "Woof!" All new words, all the time!
A few days ago,
afeley brought over her new baby, Harper. Z looked at Harper and told me, "baby!" I knew he knew that word, but it was neat to see him apply it to a real baby! I also asked him, "Z, ou est le bébé?" and he pointed right at Harper! Then, yesterday, Leah came over with her 10-month-old, who is not walking yet, but can pull up to stand. I asked Z, "is that a baby?" but he shook his head no. "What's that?" I asked, pointing at Eli. "Z!" So apparently a wee one like Harper is a baby, but a big boy who can stand up like ours is a Z!
