My creation lives!
I finished sewing on the EL wire around midnight, then stripped down the insulation on the wires to the battery pack to make the connection to the power inverter. (Note to self: next time, go to Lowes and get a wire stripper.) Put in the batteries, connected the connector, and voila! Red glowing wings!
No pictures, unfortunately; it's hard to photograph. Flash washes out the glow, and no flash gives you a picture of nothing but glow; or, if the room is bright enough for no-flash pictures, it's too bright to see the glow.
Truthfully, this is a lousy hall costume--I really need to wear it in dark places. What I want to do for the Masquerade at Fencon is come out on stage, strike a pose, and then have someone hit the lights.
Now I have to make a pouch to put the batteries in; I think I'm going to wear it at my waist with the battery pack for the farthingale, then run the wire up my back to the wings. I wear my hair down with this costume, so it will hide the wire.
