Friday the 15th finally arrived. The premiere of *ducks head and whispers* stargate *Grins*. Yes, stargate, both sg-1 and atlantis, which have become my two favorite TV shows. (Battlestar galactica aint bad and firefly's being added too).
Here's the disclaimer, if you don't like sci-fi or stargate, stop reading cause it'll only bore ya and convince even more people of what my mother knew a long time ago in a galaxy very far from her.
Sg-1's gone in a new direction with some new cast. They're moving away from the Egyptian mythology which TOTALLY sucks ass, cause that's what made me like it in the first place. Says the woman who scared off a bunch of third graders on a field trip to the MFA (Museum of Fine arts in Boston) by translating the hieroglyphs in the Egyptian rooms. They have instead decided to move to ancient arthurian lore, tying it more to the ancients and thus to atlantis which makes sense, but i'm reserving judgement to later. They've taken out O'Neill with another archetype of him and Sheppard. Basically the down to earth very informal commander whose really really good at what he does, and very intelligent, but tries not to show it. That and it allows more jokes about the newbie, oh look at him, can't find his way back to the stargate wheras before Teal'c provided this service with his misuse of earth slang "Things will not calm down O'neill, they will in fact calm up", and Jonas Quinn's obsession with the weather channel.
On atlantis, they've decided to turn the only african american male on the show into a baddie and replace him with a savage looking african american male. *sigh* has there been no progress here folks? Maybe with the lead female, Torri Higginson, who plays Weir, a head civillian for atlantis, a strong, intelligent, beautiful and well-liked commander in chief of a multi-nation mission to Sheppard's military half. Like I told Aaron, what more can ya ask for? Thier badddies are certainly scarier, the wraith which most literally suck the life outta you, but the disadvantage of that being you can't really have the same level of hammy villainy that the Goa'oulds provided. So most of the interactions involve a whole lotta shooting and attrition of non-essential scientists. Versus sg-1's almost bi monthly end of world scenarios.
In any case, good stuff. Good stuff.
