wikiplagerism...

this afternoon while at work i was researching something and i started out by googling the subject. i clicked on one of the first websites that came up after my google search and read several paragraphs about the subject. then i clicked on the wikipedia site about the subject and what i read on wikipedia was word for word what was written on the website.

this reminded me of an argument i had with a guy back in j-school about using wikipedia as a source. we were peer editing and he had used wikipedia as a source and i told him he couldn't because there is no way to verify that the stuff on wikipedia is true or where the information came from.

well, my discovery this afternoon just proves i was correct. not only is the information on wikipedia suspect, it seems to be, in some cases, plagerized from other websites. (or i supose the other website could have plagerized from wikipedia but it seems more likely it was the other way around.)

just thought i'd share my little discovery. it made me laugh when i noticed the passage had been copied word for word.
