Claire and church

Mar 19, 2009 14:37

Claire entered the church and sighed. She hadn’t been in a church for a long time and seeing one made her shiver. She wasn’t a very religious girl and hadn’t been so keen into believing in god and heaven. Because let’s face the truth, she would never die and so why would she need to believe in something that would never happen to her.

She went to sit in the front row and took out her newly bought Bible. She didn’t open it, only laid her hands on it. She eyed the big cross and the man hanging from it. Would someone really die for all the people and free them from their sins? She wasn’t sure about the sin thing but dying for the world was something she knew one person would do without thinking twice.

Claire closed her eyes and thought about where he was at the moment. Saving the world? Stopping some virus form being released? Or stopping one of his thought-to-be-dead relatives from destroying the world?

Claire stopped thinking about him. He didn’t deserve to be looked up to as a hero who would save the world over and over again. What he deserved wasn’t to be admired and respected. No, he needed to be punished for what he did. What he did to her, after saving her for so many times and telling her it would be okay and then to destroy it all and take it away.

Claire was awakened from her thought by a little girl coming to sit next to her. The girl had dark hair and blue sky eyes that would make anyone smile. She was about five years old.

“Lyle told you’d be here.” She whispered. The girl hadn’t been to a church before but from what she had heard you needed to respect the place and be quiet.

Claire smiled at the little girl. “Needed to clear my head. That’s all.”

They sat in silence.

But silence wasn’t the little girls best side. “Are you done?” She asked hopefully.

Claire nodded.

“Good, ‘cause I’m hungry.” The little girl exclaimed little too loudly and it echoed through the church.

“Oops.” She said and placed her hands on her mouth. It made Claire laugh.

“Come one, let’s go make dinner.” Claire said and lifted the little girl to lap.

“Can we have spaghetti? We had that lasagne pap yesterday and the day before, because Noah wanted it.”

“Of course we can. And don’t mock my lasagne, your brother enjoyed it.” Claire said.

Outside the church Claire lowered her daughter and watched as she ran towards their home street. Before following her she turned around to look at the church one last time.
