Star Wars Film Fest

Adam, Ian and I set out to watch all 6 Star Wars movies in episode order yesterday. Due to Adam's work schedule and the bus schedule, there was no way that we could actually watch all the movies in one day since we would not be starting until just after noon and that's a good 15 hours of movies. We decided to watch Episode I the day before, right before going to go see Jeremiah's 6 pack of canadian tour. It was Dirty Cru, Cee!!!, Moves and Kaboom. The sound system was loud, but not very clear so that was a bit sad as Fatt Matt is really funny, but you couldn't quite make everything out. Kaboom seems to not be very silly anymore and that is a real shame as that is exactly what he was good at. We were treated to an extra special bum-rush in the form of Stressed Street/Heavyweights doing a set. It is really awesome and crazy that music like that comes out of Saskatoon. And Joey makes the perfect beats for it.

Back to the movies, we only managed to actually make it through the first five as it was just after midnight at that point and the last bus leaves my place around 1:30. A few thoughts...first, the effects really improved between Episodes I and II, I mean really improved, almost as much as Episode I was an improvement over the original three movies. Second, Episode II was my favorite of the new ones. Episode III is way over the top and we all know how nothing fucking happens in Episode I. I chose to go do some laundry and make some tea during the really drawn out love sequences in Episode II so the movie actually fit together pretty well. Now I'm not really that big of a Star Trek fan, I enjoy them, but I would never consider owning one of the movies. The one thing that the Star Wars universe has going for it is how evil Vader is. And efficient! He wants a ship shot down, he gets in his special tie-fighter and goes and blasts them down. He wants a trap set for Luke and he goes to the cloud city and sets the trap himself. I'm not saying things always work out, but it's never because he's the typical large egoed bad guy who always lets the good guy get away. And he kills his underlings if they screw up at all, that is some good evil.

The two funniest things in the entire series happened in Episode III. The first is when the Emperor is getting zapped by his own zapping at the hand of Mace Windoo (sp?) and he puts on the most over the top performance ever with all the begging and such. Way too funny. The second is how silly Vader's 70s blue and red buttons on his suit looked in the modern movie. Hilarious!!!

The other highlight was in Empire when they were fighting the AT-ATs and they take out the first one by tying up it's legs and it falls forward on it's "face". Well Amy was watching it with us and she let out the girls seeing a cut thing so something that she let out an "awwww" when it fell down. The next five minutes were a battle over the whether the AT-ATs were cute or not. Pregnant ladies have crazy hormones.
