Mates of State, Lyrics Born and Pigeon John

Last wee was a good one for shows.

Last Sunday Amy and I went to go see our second ever Mates of State show. If you don't know Mates of State, they're a husband a wife band on drums and organ and they holler their songs and usually aren't singing the same thing. Sound magical doesn't it? It is, because they are very cute, their music is very cute and filled with lots of energy. Last time we saw them, we vowed to make all of our friends out here come with us. The only person who even got close was Ian, who had a ticket but didn't manage to actually make it to the show due to some sort of sequence of events that involved being nearby skating, but having left his ticket at home. Amy has forgiven him as much as she can given how much of a grudge she tend to hold. The show was great even by ourselves except that it was way more packed and the stage was way lower so we couldn't see as well as the first time. We still held hands and grinned like idoits through the whole set. The opening band was Golden Republic who felt like a half-decent Spoon knock-off.

On Thursday, Ian and I went to go see Lyrics Born and Pigeon John, who is apparently on Quannum now. I guess that means he'll have to slow his album release schedule to one every five years if he wants to fit in there. Both those dudes had tons of energy and are the kind of show that I would tell people that think rap shows always suck to go to. Lyrics Born's wife is crazy scary close-up and Pigeon John's DJ (DJ E.P.) had more trouble than anything I've seen since Epic started scratching. Good fun all around!
