"Stop worrying, they'll love you."
She gives him a weak smile and busies herself with the task of grabbing the wine from the back seat. The sooner she becomes friends with it the better. Truth is she doesn't do well with parents. She's a grown woman and she doesn't do well with parents, she's horrible with family.
They're at the front door of his parent's house, waiting for one of them to open it and greet them excitedly, talking a mile a minute about how happy it is to see him and to meet her. She repeats, in her head, their names, knowing she won't forget but it's a mantra now.
"There he is," his father booms swinging the door open, his enthusiasm scaring her half to death.
He looks just like him, only older, thicker and to her surprise taller.
"You must be the ever famous C.J. Cregg, come here," he ropes her into a warm, strong embrace, dragging the both of them inside then calling out to his wife, "Bren, get in here! You need to meet this looker of a girl."
She feels her face flush and sees Simon smirking out the corner of her eye. She would grab his hand if hers wasn't already balled up, ready to strike him for finding her embarrassment so amusing.
Brenda, shorter than them all, more beautiful than C.J. imagined, peeks out from the kitchen into the entry way where they stand.
"Well, hello C.J.," she, though not literally, sings. "It's very nice to have you over and please forgive me; I'm wrapped up in this dinner making business."
"D-Do you need any help," the words struggle out of C.J.'s mouth.
"Oh, that's mighty kind of you but no need to worry dear. I'm just about finished," her voice carries the faintest southern accent and she smiles to all of them before disappearing again.

"So, what does C.J. stand for," James, the father, inquires, their plates near empty, glasses half full.
She swallows, "Claudia Jean."
"That's a lovely name," Brenda inputs just as James begins to talk over her.
"So, Simon, when are we going to do the right thing, marry this fine girl, and give us some grandkids?"
C.J. chokes on her wine while Simon starts to laugh. She's not sure if he finds it all that funny but it definitely shocks him which makes her nervous all over again.
"Well, dad-"
"Time's-a-wastin'!"
"JAMES," Brenda steps in causing C.J. to thank God and Simon to rub his forehead. "You've only just met the woman don't go scaring her off! Go on Simon."
"I was just going to say we haven't really thought about that."
The looks on his parents faces make her come to his defense.
"It's just that, with our schedules, it's hard to think about… those things. I mean, we come home and only have enough energy to collapse on the bed," she chuckles anxiously and it wins her more points because James is chuckling as well.
"Just don't wait too long now," is his final say.
"You always have to have the last word," Brenda mutters but he kisses her cheek, a promise he'll contain himself for the remainder of the night.

They're right back where they started and instead of taking the coats, James and Brenda are helping them into them. Kissing cheeks and saying they're goodbyes they've welcomed her into the Donovan clan.
They all hope it's for good.
