Random Acts

I was running some errands today - forgot to get soy sauce the other day while at the stores. And, I was thinking about Gandhi - come on you know you randomly think about Gandhi as well. This thought made me remember this one day in Denver while walking the 16th mall.

I was 18, working as a file clerk while visiting my mother just after graduation. (To demonstrate my overall cheapness - I just threw the dress shirts out and was wearing until I quit my job - I'm 28.) I was eating some rice on a bench and watching people - I like watching people.

Across the way was this young girl sitting against one of the buildings panhandling (hope she had a license - Oh! Maybe I should get one of those - anyway), she had ripped jeans, seemed like a "normal" young person. But, this man in a suit stopped. Instead of simply dropping some change he leaned down and they started talking. He handed her his card. Then I recognized who he was.

He was the same guy that hired me on at the temp agency that I was working for in Denver. And, I thought, wow - someone actually dedicated to the mission behind his job.

After all - give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach him to fish and all that.

Just an observation I wanted to share.
