Brandi's War: Chapter Thirteen.

Nov 24, 2009 00:14

I wrote up Chapter Thirteen tonight, I think in totality. It's the evening after Brandi's first eventful day at work. She can't be as open about it with Betty.

Some more social commentary climbed into this chapter. It all comes back to the Shrub.

I had to determine whether it'd be more reasonable for Nebraskans to say "pop" or "soda". The general rule for Canadians is that Canadians say "pop" while Americans say "soda". Which is bullshit, because I say "soda", but on the other hand the reason for that is conscious rebellion on my part: I say "soda" because people think I shouldn't. Besides, "soda" is more interesting. (I also say "candy bar" instead of "chocolate bar". Fuck the establishment, and various other slogans.) Luckily I remembered http://www.popvssoda.com/. I voted there many years ago. For "soda", of course. I determined "pop" is more appropriate than "soda" in Nebraska. So it's pop. Hell, Betty refers to the cans with the plural "pops", which sounds appropriately undereducated. "Sodas" obviously doesn't sound anywhere near as stupid.

So…there's this. It's not bad.
