All in all, I had a nice birthday yesterday. I went out for dinner with
femme_phoenix and
nightface at Cafe Masaryk. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that the food there was a lot better than we had remembered. Not that we had thought it was bad in the past, it was just really good. Well worth it. Especially since they treated me.
And then, as we were leaving, I got a call from
joebrown42 and his family. Romy promised to bring me lots and lots of balloons and a present, so that I would have a happy birthday.
And before I get to trivia, here are some pictures of my nieces. Who can blame me for being a proud uncle?
And so to trivia. I only got answers from three people (
antongarou,
redaxe and
lovechilde).
I had asked about the various Doctors. Here are the answers, and I will say which Doctor each question belonged to, as each question refers to a different one.
1) Who was the only companion not to travel in the Tardis? The answer I was expecting for this one is the one
lovechilde gave. Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart never did ride in the Tardis with the Doctor. (3rd Doctor)
2) Who was the only Doctor to smoke?
redaxe got this one right. The First Doctor smoked a pipe in one episode. (1st Doctor)
3) What is the Doctor allergic to, and what does he carry to help him with this allergy? Points to both
lovechilde and
redaxe. The Fifth Doctor wore his celery to help protect him from gases in the Praxis range. (5th Doctor)
4) Which is the only Doctor not to have dealt with the Master? As all three knew, this was Christopher Eccleston (9th Doctor).
5) Which Doctor had earlier appeared in the series - as a baddie! Colin Baker had previously portrayed Commander Maxil, one of the few people to have shot the Doctor. Kudos to
lovechilde for knowing this. (6th Doctor)
6) How long was the scarf? I have to apologize for this, since I didn't research it properly. Apparently, Tom Baker had 6 different scarves over time, and they were all between 10.5 feet long to 20 feet long. So both
redaxe and
lovechilde got it right. (4th Doctor)
7) What was Donna Noble’s job before she started traveling with The Doctor? She was a temporary secretary at HC Clements, as
redaxe knew. (10th Doctor)
8) Which was the first Doctor to use the sonic screwdriver? I will give points to both
redaxe as well as
lovechilde. The sonic scrwedriver was in fact first used by Patrick Troughton (2nd Doctor)
9) Who grew up into her own cousin? I am surprised that no one got this. The young Amy Pond was played by Caitlin Blackwood, who is Karen Gillan's cousin. (11th Doctor)
10) Which Doctor regenerated into himself? This is Sylvester McCoy. Colin Baker declined to participate in the regeneration scene, so McCoy donned a wig. (7th Doctor)
11) Who was the first non-British actor to portray the Doctor? Okay. I messed up on this one. There have only been two actors to portray the Doctor who weren't born in England. Both Sylvester McCoy and David Tennant are Scottish. Which means I missed a question about the 8th Doctor.
And here is today's trivia question. I am going to fall back on something easy for me to come up with - quoting lyrics from songs in my collection. It is up to you to identify the song and singer. Please remember that these are not necessarily the first line in the song.
1) And your shrink ran off to Europe and didn't even write
2) Fog lifts to reveal potential for generations prophesized
3) How I long for something better than this life I know too well
4) You know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe, scarlet billows start to spread
5) Sometimes you're so impulsive, you shaved off all your hair
6) Uptown they're digging it out, better lay your claim
7) They burned the churches in Harlem like in that Spanish Civil War
8) I'm a man that will go far, fly the moon and reach for the stars
9) Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things to come
10) I've thought of you in far-off places, I've puzzled over lipstick traces
