Today marks a year since we lost the companionship of the doggie you see on the right.
Canella was 13 years old when I took this snapshot. I chose this picture, even though it's not the best, because it shows her the way I like to remember her, a happy doggie with her tail a blur in a wagging frenzy and a look on her face that says, "Let's play, Dad!" This snapshot captures how, even though she was 13, she looked and acted like a puppy her entire life.
She passed just a few months after her 14th birthday. The last year of her life she slowed down quite a bit and eventually it was her kidneys that took her away. The spark just faded away gradually until she was gone. Still she was a happy dog right up until that last, miserable day when she was just too sick to carry on.
Canella was such a great dog and fantastic pet and, dare I say, a beloved friend. I could write you a novel on what a fun, free spirited and comedic animal she was and how much she was loved by us. I won't try, because nothing I write can convey the joy that was Canella.
We marked the day remembering her and some of her funnier antics. We took our Beagle, Mallory, on a walk dedicated to the memory of Canella.
Thanks for the memories and the companionship, Canella, we miss you.
