Brief moment out from the day job - my editor at
Think Camera just told me that the
Ricoh Caplio R6 review that I submitted this morning has gone live.
The R6 is a nice camera and anyone looking for a new digital compact would do well to consider it. I found it a little hard to get excited by it (though that may be because this is my third compact review in a row) which is a shame because it's got a very nice spec and takes pretty good pictures. For sheer blinding start-stop speed and portability I preferred the
Casio EX-Z75 but the Casio really lacks the image quality - as someone put it, the lens looks to have come from a Christmas cracker.
Just for completeness, I'll mention the
Kodak V803 review, in which we see how bad high-ISO settings can be. However, a nice camera for your mum perhaps. Not my mum, obviously - I put her on a £100 Fuji compact which produces sharper images than all the others.
I still find it funny that my Canon A40 from several years ago produced higher quality images than any modern compact, despite being only 2MP.
Anyway, back to work that pays the rent...
