The Goldstone Report - The Seed of Wars

Oct 23, 2009 06:07

The UN Human Rights Commission has authored a report which could be the seed of wars to come -- and of harsher and more brutal ones, at that.

From Robert M. Goldberg in "The Goldstone Report's Cold Logic," The American Spectator (http://spectator.org/archives/2009/10/23/the-goldstone-reports-cold-log)

Those who claim the Goldstone Report was written simply to blacken Israel's name are missing the point. That is and can be done almost daily by directly feeding the media half truths and propaganda to use in articles that reinforce the narrative of Palestinian suffering at the hands of the occupying Israelis.

Rather, the purpose for producing the Goldstone Report was to provide a "rationale" for domestic courts around the world that are sympathetic to militant Islam to arrest Israelis -- whether they be political leaders, military officials or ordinary soldiers -- and prosecute them for war crimes under so-called " universal jurisdiction" laws.

In other words, the Goldstone Report could embolden other countries to seize Israeli citizens and hold them hostage for years at a time, under the color of UN authorization. This would be, of course, an act of war, and one quite likely to provoke Israeli retaliation. Such retaliation would be fairly easy, as there would be plenty of prominent citizens belonging to the aggressor states available for seizure and transport to Israel by Israeli covert action teams. If, OTOH, Israel accepted these aggressions unchallenged, Israel would have essentially been punished for exercising her right of self-defense.

If Israel faced such attacks simply for having accidentally killed some Palestinians in the Gaza while defending herself, then no Power which went to war for any reason or fought its war in any but the most unattainably-perfect manner would be safe from such aggressive behavior on the part of other countries. This would increase the frequency of international conflict, if any countries were stupid enough to commit such provocations and imagine that it was not committing acts of war. Furthermore, since no level of humanity in war would be enough to avoid the sort of events which are being labeled "war crimes" in regards to Operation Cast Lead, there would be absolutely no incentive for any Power to exercise any level of humanity in war at all.

The UN has almost completed its descent from the high ideals of its founding. From an organization designed to discourage war, it has become an organization designed to encourage it.

All we need now is an explicit endorsement of genocide to render the UN's corruption complete.
