A small treasure trove...

I've stumbled across a small treasure trove of e-books. The Boys Books has several classics, including some of the Tom Swift (first series) books! They're fun to read, early 20th century sci-fi has such a great nostalgia factor.

While I was rummaging about the interwebs I also re-discovered the Baen Books Free Library which has some good Baen titles, I recommend Mutineers Moon.

There's also ManyBooks, I'm still checking it out, not sure what it has.

What spurred my interest in eBooks is the prospect of getting an Asus EEE PC in the next few weeks. If you're not familiar with it, the EEE is an ultra-portable notebook: ~2lbs, 7" screen, more-or-less touch-typeable keyboard, SSD based storage (ie flash) in 2G/4G/8G capacities, built-in web came on some models, built-in wireless, 3 USB ports, and an SD card slot. $400 for the 4 gig version with webcam, not too bad. I've been thinking about upgrading my iBook, but I want to wait until the MacBooks are refreshed. In the meantime (and in general) I could use something small/light/cheap enough to carry to class/school/work every day, that has some semblance of a real keyboard, and is capable of web browsing and basic office tasks. The Eee seems to do all that. The best part about the EEE? It runs linux and includes OpenOffice and a slew of other open-source apps.

Enough commercial. Given the $400 price tag and the portability of the thing, I'm tempted to give it a try.
