Work

I am struggling today. The weather is uninspiring and I am bereft of my afternoon walk in the sunshine. Instead I am stuck in here and have to write this blog as an escape from my surroundings.

We all work very hard here. We are dedicated to our jobs, yet not to the point of mindblowing insanity that I suffered at other workplaces.

I get a break every two hours in which I can chose to study, read, walk, eat or rest. It's good. We have TVs, beanbags, food facilities and a reasonably varied environment in which to walk.

There is, as always, some suspicion that work is merely an excuse for adult babysitting, however I think that I do a good job and am a valued member of the team. This does not always happen.

I have worked at a variety of places in my life:

Lenard's - cutting up chicken, serving customers and preparing food.

Sunlight - writing textbooks, editing others work and researching material.

Crown Content - selling books to rich people and getting rebuffed by secretaries.

SMART - selling green energy and Port Adelaide subscriptions.

DataActive - selling newspapers and doing surveys.

Supernerd - internet sales manager (my first 'professional' job.

ConnectNow/UtilityOne - selling 'everything' to the moving market - a wider cross section than I ever imagined possible.

All of them are better and more lucrative than 'Centrelink', with whom I'm never engaging again if I can help it. All of them have given me experiences that allow me to add real-life experiences to academic achievements.
