Oh, this is fabulous, jooles34! Just what I was looking for! Thank you very much! :-D

I like the way you were able to show Lester being upset and vulnerable and, yet, still keep him in character. It makes sense that Lester would feel guilty about anyone who works for him getting injured or dying, especially if it's his lover. I love the way Connor figures out why Lester is really upset and immediately sets about dealing with it. The way you ended the story is just perfect:

Connor picked up one of Lester’s hands and placed it in the centre of his chest.

“Feel it James. My heart is still beating. I’m still alive. I’m still here.”

Connor trailed his other hand down from Lester’s face to his chest.

“And so are you.”

As Connor leant forward to kiss the other man and show him just how alive they both were, he felt Lester’s heart start to beat faster under his hand, in time with his own.
