“What did you get?”
“What did you get?”
“87.”
“88.”
Minho groans in a defeated manner, waving an imaginary white flag above his head. He glares jokingly as Eunsook flashes him a toothy grin, giddily fidgeting in her seat as the teacher goes through the physics test.
It was a game they always played, competing to see who could get a higher score.
Their relationship was strange. Minho, the most popular guy in school, just so happened to be arranged to sit by Eunsook one day, the point in which their friendship began to bud. He was always awed by the high grades the quiet and shy girl obtained, secretly studying like a madman when a test comes up just so he could get the satisfaction of ‘winning’ her.
In this case, he had. Just in another way.
Eunsook treasured their friendship, as it was the only one that she had in the school. She had transferred his class two years ago, being immediately made fun of her messy haircut, cheery grin and dying fashion sense, and was classified to the bottom of the social pyramid.
With all the sneers and rude words she received daily from other girls, her science classes with Choi Minho were the only thing that kept her sane. She’d thought he’d be snobby and not bother to talk to her, yet she was continuously being proven wrong. She decided in her little mind that Minho deserved his well-earned popularity.
Somewhere along their path of friendship, Eunsook had fallen for the popular, handsome quarterback.
“Why do you always get higher marks than me?” He groans, burying his head in his hands.
“…I study?” Eunsook raises her eyebrows and smiles.
“If only you could help me study everyday.” He mumbles under his breath.
“Study? Sure!” Minho jumped in his seat, obviously a little surprised that Eunsook heard him.
“Wha- I mean, really?”
“Y-yea.”
The school bell dismisses their dialogue, and Eunsook watches longingly as Minho returned to his football pack. She packed her book slowly, slipping everything neatly into her plaid school bag, before she spotted a piece of paper left on Minho’s desk. It was the assignment set for tonight! He must be finding it, she thought, stepping out to the hallway and scanning the corridor for the tall football captain. He was no where in sight. She shrugged, slipping forwards, hurling herself right into a passing girl…with a strawberry smoothie in her hand.
Shit.
Eunsook smiles weakly as the smoothie covered girl glared at her.
“I-I’m so sorry!! I-I”
She frantically upturned her bag in search of her little pack of tissues, flinging one desperately into the girl’s waiting hand, who dropped it onto the floor and stepped over it as she strutted away. Eunsook noticed that she was wearing a cheerleader uniform.
Wait.
Pigtails.
Pink hair ties.
Fiery gaze.
Oh.
Eunsook had just knocked a smoothie all over Kim Gwiboon, the cheerleader captain and the most popular girl in school. She could literally feel herself falling down the social scale even more as she picked up the spoiled tissue and threw it into a dustbin.

She knew that the football team had their training sessions each Monday, so she trudged her way over to the field after school, clutching the homework in her hand.
Minho was lying with his friends, Kim Jonghyun and Kim Ki bum.
She hesitated a little before walking towards them, shifting awkwardly behind the bleachers before mustering her courage and striding bravely out towards him.
“H-hi.” Minho blinks at her sweatily as her figure shadowed the sun behind her, casting a deep shadow over him. Jonghyun and Key pay no mind to her as they huddled together, chattering. Her brain stops working for a moment before she remembers what she was there for, and stuffs the sheet hurriedly into his hands before proceeding to shuffle away nervously.
“Hey.”
Eunsook froze on the spot, her back turned to them. She twiddled her fingers before turning around timidly. Minho waved the sheet at her, and got up from his spot, she tried not to blush as she watched a trickle of sweat swim down his neck, disappearing into the top of his collar. .
“Is it okay if you teach me this today? I have no idea what this is about.”
“I-…er…sure!”
And that was how Lee Eunsook brought Choi Minho over to her house.
Her eyes darted from wall to wall as he eyed her bedroom in detail, commenting on the pattern of her bed sheets and the very few photographs she had put up on a stand. She swallows a ball of air as he notices her music scores.
“Wow.”
“They’re nothing, I just play around.”
“That’s a shame though, you have a nice voice. Talking voice, I erm, mean.” He plops down on her bed, and she sits at her desk. Feeling her heart race, she clears her throat before asking him what he didn’t understand.
“Well I don’t get this, don’t get that, don’t get this, don’t get that…..”
Minho never told Eunsook that he actually understood all the questions, and that he had already finished the homework at lunch when he stole a copy off Changmin.
A few hours went by, and Minho bowed to her at the front door, waving a friendly goodbye before disappearing around the corner of the street. She ran back up to her room, throwing herself onto her bed and salvaged whatever that was left of Choi Minho into her heart.

“So how was it yesterday?” Kibum asks as he fed Jonghyun a chip, eyeing Minho expectantly.
“How was what? Eunsook and I are nothing.” He replies as he chews on the plastic cafeteria fork.
“Weird. I accidentally told Gwiboon about Eunsook and you….yea. And apparently Nerd girl knocked my sister’s smoothie onto her. Not a good beginning mate.”
“Wow. Props to her for teaching that bitch a lesson.” Kibum slaps Jonghyun playfully.
“Does it matter? There’s nothing between us anyway. “
“Uh, yea. Now that Gwiboon is bitching about her to everyone, and you’re …tightly bonding with Little miss goody, the school’s gonna go crazy, Mr. Popular.”
“Or, just make a move!” Jonghyun pipes in cheerfully. “You like her, no doubt.” .
“Hey Eunsook.”
She lurched to her right in surprise. It was a miracle to hear her name called by a fellow student. Less it be the cheerleader captain, Kim Gwiboon.
“H-hi Gwiboon.”
She shuffles forward awkwardly, opening her locker as she stole glances at the beauty.
“So, how’s it going with Minho?” Gwiboon asks as she reapplied her lip-gloss in front of a portable mirror.
Eunsook jumps up in shock, ramming her head into the locker door.
“M-minho? What are you talking about?”
“There’s been gossip swirling around you two lately. Dating gossip. You two are totally together, aren’t you, cheeky little people.” She says in a posh manner, fixing her long curls.
“U-us?! N-no way!! Me and Minho we went to my house and we did h-ho-“
‘-Something. I knew it!!!” Gwiboon pats her on the head and gives her a cheery wave before bouncing off, leaving Eunsook behind in a pile of dust.
Being the queen bitch certainly had its highs. Rumors spreaded through the school like wildfire, with only one sentence from Gwiboon having been said. A single faked statement of “Eunsook said that they went home together and…something.” drove the entire female population wild. Everyone seemed to misinterpreted the cheerleader’s words as something else, and that was exactly what caused problems.
Eunsook on the other hand, wondered why every girl that passed by glared at her like she was a leech. She wondered why five dozens of used toilet paper crash landed into her toilet cubicle when she was eating her lunch as usual. She wondered why her white PE sneakers were painted red, and where the constant abuse came from.
Most of all, she wondered why Minho suddenly had chosen to ignore her.
They sat through chemistry in silence, Eunsook being powerless at breaking down Minho’s cold firm shield. She slipped him a note timidly.
Did something happen?
She swallows her saliva and pumps her fist inside her head as Minho gives it a casual glance, scribbling something on it.
No.
The A grade student looked at Minho pleadingly, sighing as the other turned his books away from her.
When the bell rang on that day, Eunsook ran home in tears, flooding her clean sheets. She never knew this day would come, the day where which even Minho had given up on her. She wished that she didn’t build her world around him, and she realized how stupid it was to go to school, just to see his handsome face.
The bullying never stopped. It started off as small issues that didn’t really effect her, like harassing her verbally, but it had got to a point where her textbooks were stolen, ripped and her locker was showered with paint, to a point where she was emotionally destroyed from the hurt.
Minho continued to ignore her, burying his head into his books. She looks down despairingly, and waits patiently as the teacher delivers their recent assessment.
“What did you get?”
No reply.
“I-i…I got 65.” She says quietly, noticing how Minho’s eyes widen in surprise. She expected him to say something. Anything.
This time Minho had won Eunsook, yet he wasn’t as happy about it as he expected himself to be.
Eunsook changes her lunch routine the next day, eating her lunch on the deserted steps instead of the usual ladies cubicle. The air was nice and fresh, and she smiled as a gentle breeze skidded past her. She opens a book and begins to read as she digs into her pasta, humming a gentle song.
She’d planned that she’ll finish her lunch and return to the library.
Except, things almost never go the way Eunsook plans them.
She whimpers as a herd of angry girls shoved her against the wall next to the rubbish bins. Squeaking as a hand reached out and grabbed her tray of food, she cowered under the safety of her novel as a dozen of fearful eyes loomed over her tiny shadow.
“Bitch, spreading rumours about Minho Oppa!”
“Yea, why would he even look at someone like you!”
“Hes just playing around with you, you’ve been fooled!!”
“Minho Oppa is ours!!!”
Eunsook shudders as the plate of pasta fertilized her ironed white school shirt, inking it a deep shade of red. Holding back her tears, she protected her book and attempted to push the crowd away, falling down into her knees as she was immensely overpowered.
“…..H-hai…..”
“...Minho oppa…..”
“It’s not our fault, it’s that bitch that made us do that!”
“She was spreading rumors about you!!!”
Minho swept the girls aside, putting his arm around Eunsook’s trembling shoulder.
“Thank you, but I’ll deal with my own problems.”
He yells as he pulled Eunsook through the crowd.
“Oh and, the real bitches are the ones right in front of me, so there.”
Eunsook looks down at her fingers anxiously as Minho wiped the rest of the tomato sauce off her face, smoothing out her messy bangs. She looks away when he sits down next to her on the school bench.
“I’m sorry.” She hears him mutter ever so quietly.
“W-what?”
“I’m sorry ignoring you, It just that…if I talked to you, they could’ve done worse.”
“I…that…it was a mistake! I didn’t...say anything. “
“Gwiboon’s a bitch. She could single handedly destroy someone’s social life forever. I was just that stupid to choose this method and pray that she wouldn’t hurt you. I’m sorry.”
“No! It’s all my fault! If I t-told Gwiboon properly, than this wouldn’t have-“
She was silenced by Minho pressing his lips against hers shyly. Being the nerd that she was, she tries to keep still as her heart pounds at her ribcage excitedly, accelerating by each second. Her chest heaves a sigh of relief as she feels Minho smile into the kiss, and her heart feels like it was filled to the brim with happiness and energy.
“Eunsook, would you be my girlfriend?” Eunsook could feel her chest bursting as she stared into his twinkling eyes, the joy crimsoning her cheeks.
“But…they…”
“I really don’t give a damn.”
And he leans in for another kiss.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
“What did you get?”
“What did you get?”
“92.”
“93.”
Minho groans and pretends to cry in an emphasizing manner, pulling Eunsook in for a hug and wrapping his warm arms around the girl who had been alone and cold for so long.
