Well it's Groundhog Day... again, but I'm not posting about Punxsutawny Phil predicting an early Spring. Let's face it, he knew he was mittens if he didn't cough up some good news. No sirree Bob, my good news is book-related.
I got a lovely start to the day when I received an email from the good folks at SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators), reminding me that my debut novel,
Fur-Face, is up for a
2011 Crystal Kite Award in the regional division that includes: Pennsylvania; Delaware; New Jersey; Washington DC; Virginia and Maryland.
The award goes to the book SCBWI members vote their favorite from among those published by SCBWI members during the previous calendar year.
I must say it's kind of exciting to see my novel up there, competing with all those great children's books that debuted in 2010. It certainly inspires me to work even harder on Dead Doris. I want a rough draft finished in time for the Donald Maass workshop at
The Write Stuff Conference next month, for which I hear there are still a few places available, if anyone's interested.
How's your day going?
