Why I Still Can't Forgive the NHL, Reason 35.

Jan 03, 2009 16:10

On January 25, the Montsburgh Penadians will host the Mighty Blackhawks of Chicaheim in the 2009 NHL All-Star Game.

No, seriously; the entire starting lineups for the East and West combined will be composed of players from only four teams: four Canadiens, two Penguins, and three each from Anaheim and Chicago. The thing is... none of those teams are even in first place in their respective divisions, and one of them (Pittsburgh) wouldn't even make the damned playoffs if the season ended today*. What the bloody blue hell is going on here? Seriously, someone who's actually paid attention since the strike explain this to me in terms I can digest.

If the NHL was a real league, someone would step in and call bullshit, just like Ford Frick did in 1957 when Cincinnati fans stuffed the ballot box to get seven Reds voted in as starters for the National League.

* - Okay, I admit, I really can't argue with Crosby and Malkin on individual merit, but jeez...
