It's been more than a week since I posted. I've had bite-sized things to write about, but nothing sustained, so I abstained. (Didja see what I did there with sustained and abstained? :D)
I've enjoyed the holidays so far; nothing extraordinary, but many things pleasant. Using my bubbe's candlestick, having Christmas Eve dinner with my chosen family - I still taste and dream of Marek's golden beet soup...amazing.
On the entertainment side, I saw Tinker Tailor (excellent), Dragon Tattoo (good), read a bunch.
Dragon Tat question: Anyone seen the Swedish version? Anyone seen both? I've read the book and seen the English language movie. I'd love to find out how Salander is portrayed in the Swedish version.
Last night I finally watched the final three eps of Rescue Me. I'd put off the last viewing. Didn't really want to say goodbye... Also, I worried about how (not if) they'd make me cry. Well, they DID make me cry. And they made me laugh out loud. What an amazing show. I'll miss it, but it was time to go. This season was good - better than most things on TV- but it had less energy than the last couple. I think they've said what they have to say.
Today I walked to my local greengrocer and butcher and cheesemonger (I usually call in my orders and they deliver). It's such a neat walk, and they're such lovely people. The greengrocer actually consults me on what to special-order for Chanukah and Passover! They know my name. How I like my meat packaged, which fruits are my favourites... I really must walk there whenever weather permits. It's good for me to get out of the condo and schmooze my homies, and squeeze the merch.
