Allen Cunningham is (perhaps) the best tournament poker player in the world. If everyone who played in major events voted for their top ten in the Game, I am pretty sure that Allen's name would appear on the most lists. It used to be that the best player in the world could expect to have some number of realistic chances in their life of winning the WSOP Main Event, but thanks to the growth in poker, that
best player will experience the main chance much less often, if at all. This year, Allen worked his way through over 8000 people to reach the final table of the main event. If he had won at that final table, it would have been the realization of his (and almost every serious poker player's) dream of being recognized as World Champion.
Allen finished in 4th place. Will he ever again be so close to being Champion? I doubt it.
What is the most personally disappointing event that has ever happened in your life?
What if I said poker event?
How many of those disappointments are as dramatic and life-long as Allen Cunningham's?
