Weight Loss

I am, as of today, down one more pound for a total of 14 lbs. lost since the beginning of my company's Biggest Loser contest. This is a pretty good accomplishment, but the thought that my very reasonable and healthy goal weight still lies 16 more lbs. away is a bit daunting. (By the way, if I reached my personal goal, a doctor would tell me I still should lose at least another 10 lbs. - I'm just trying to be realistic.) However, I fully intend to continue to pursue my goal even after the contest officially ends on December 7. (There is a 0.000000001% chance I will lose 16 lbs in the intervening period, and the one billionth of one percent chance I cite merely takes into consideration that I could be forcibly abducted by an insane cabal of liposuction terrorists.)

Breaking it down to a shorter term goal, I want to lose one pound in the next one week. Lest that seem like an oddly modest goal, bear in mind that the next one week includes Thanksgiving! However, I am off work after today, until next Monday, and I definitely tend to be a little better about exercising when I'm home. If I sleep in a little, I am also usually pretty satisfied with eating just two meals, which also helps. If I succeed, that will be 15 lbs total, which is a significant milestone in my mind. See, I like to go bowling, and I like it so much that Sarah bought me my own bowling ball. My bowling ball weighs 15 lbs. It may seem silly, but the thought that I am about to reach a point where I am no longer carrying around an entire bowling ball of weight with me all day, every day, inordinately appeals to me.

Speaking of exercise, Sarah and Hannah joined me yesterday, which was really nice. Hannah rode a bike, and Sarah walked with me. Unfortunately, after a little distance, I had to leave my wife behind for part of the walk, because my pace is pretty fast. However, I do two circuits around the neighborhood, and I was able to catch back up with her on our neighborhood's side street, so we did walk the last few tenths of a mile together. As for Hannah, she zipped all around, not sticking with us much of the time. She seemed to have fun. It reminded me, though, that I haven't been encouraging my daughters to exercise as much as I used to.
