Statistics in Action: Understanding a World of Data, by Ann E. Watkins, Richard L. Scheaffer and George W. Cobb
This seems to the the preferred textbook for the AP statistics course, and I bought it in case I wound up with tutoring students who needed help in statistics.
It's not a bad book for what it sets out to do: Teach statistics without dealing with some of the more complicated, calculus-based parts. But in doing that, they turn a moderately difficult subject into a collection of magic formulas, none of which really make sense.
Not recommended: If you want to understand statistics, take a more advanced class. If you don't want to understand statistics, ask for help when facing related problems.
