I've had the coolest last week ever!!!! I can't remember the last time I updated but nothing too significant had happened till last weekend newayz (schools good, diet's goin great, my arm is mostly healed and I had fun SKIING up north).
So anyways, there was a snowboarding contest out at Pine Knob, which I had been debating entering all season. I was really unsure because that one snowday we had was the first time I had been out boarding and actually trying tricks since I had hurt my arm, and the competition was that sunday. So anyways I figure oh what the hell, I'm sure it willl be a good experience so I decided to enter.
Of course on sunday, being me, I overslept and didnt get out there till like a half an hour before it started so I only got 3 practice runs in (for those of you who know pine knob, they held the contest in the big park, only they made the jumps like a million times bigger!). My last practice run I went to set up for the kinked rail (rides straight up, then drops at an angle and shoots you down really fast), was completely off balance, and fell off face first. I was ok, but when I was falling down (remember these are at least 6 ft off the ground) I smacked my arm on the rail....it was a lil bloody and bruised, and very sore. At this point I was so down, I almost thought about pulling out of it. I know it's cheesy, but like right after I fell Eminem's "Lose Yourself" came on. I heard that frst phrase (hence the title of my entry) and figured I should just go for it. I guess it's better to try and fail than look back and wonder.......but anyways, add my huge fall, to the fact that my main competition was talking about how she was gonna throw 3's = not a positive way to start off.
The way they set the thing up was so that everyone who was competing was at the top, and everyone was was watching was lined up along the fence (probly about a hundred people.....very cool!). I was sooooo extremely nervous when they called my name, I thought I was gonna puke. But it was really cool cuz a lot of the instrutors were either in the comp or watching, so they were all cheering for me really loud, which helped a bit. Anyways, my first hit was gonna be the rail. I didn't necessarily care bout riding the whole thing, just not falling. So I got up and I rode the flat part, but had to ollie off before the kinked part. I was able to land and get a good set up for the next two jumps- on both of them I cleared the flat part, and on the last one I got so much air that I completely cleared the landing ramp and landed on flat ground- it was sweet. So I started off pretty good, went inside to warm up, then came back out for my second run.
Before I went for my second run, I got to watch this other girl who is really good go. She didnt ride the rails, and she set up for a three, and totally lost it in the air- she wiped out hard. On my second run, I set up for the rail with a lot of speed, aired over a lot of the flat part, landed on it, then rode straight over the kink then down off of it. That was the coolest feeling in the world- I had actually done it!!! I got good air on the last two jumps- I didnt spin but I did get some good grabs in. It was such an adrenaline rush to be going over the jumps, then you look down and see the crowd and they are like all screaming and clapping, it was just an incredible feeling.
Afer the comp was over (got to see some INSANE tricks from the guys; for anyone who knows snowboarding, they were doin misty flips and rodeo 720's- which they got disqualified for, but were totally awesome) we went inside and waited for the awards ceremony. I was extremely nervous when they were calling the places for the girls division I was in........ BUT I WON FIRST PLACE!!!!!!! :-D I beat out like 6 other chicks, and scored 10 points higher than the next closest one. The other sweet part was that afterwards, we got to check out everyones score- I got a 49, and the guy who got 3rd place in the boys got a 53. So if I had entered in the boys, I would have gotten 4th!!!! So I got this really cool trophy, and oh yeah, A SNOWBOARD. Too bad it is way to big for me, but its really cool. Vernors was sponsoring so its these cool green colors and says vernors on the tail of it.
Basically this was the most awesome time I've had in a long while. I was on such a high sunday night, I couldn't get any work done at all. I really think that next year I'm gonna join the AASA (read: american amateur snowboarding association) and go up north and compete on weekends. It was just such an awesome feeling to complete a good run, I have to experience it again. Who knows, if I'm lucky maybe someone will pick me up to sponsor.... you never know!!! hehehe. Ok welll I guess I'm done rambling. I'm sure just about everyone who reads this has heard about it already, but you have all been pestering me to update. so THERE. hehe jk :O) byes!!!
side note: should hear from u of m in a few weeks, 4.0'd my bio exam, and am up for some big scholarship at OU, which if I get, I will almost surely stay there (It would be very nice to start off my life after college WITH some money rather than 20,000$ in debt). But more on those things later. :-D
