Day 1 in Moscow

Feb 03, 2005 17:58

When I got off the plane at 11 am, it was sunny and pretty. the temp was 2 degrees F and there are about 18 in of snow on the ground, and as the sun is going down it is even colder. my jacket and boots are ridiculously warm, which leaves my knees very cold and confused. just about every flight attendant from sarasota to moscow loved the boots. all the russians are just as cold as i am... some of the women who insist upon wearing skirts, and who have about 5 inches of just pantyhose-covered legs showing are practically running, trying to get to their heated destinations. the russians overheat all the buildings, so i dont mind the weather at all. its nice being very cold for 10 minutes at a time (for now at least. we'll see how i feel if i have to walk for an hour at any time. well, actually i did have to walk around for about 20 min, and my legs started to hurt from the cold. tommorrow i will wear tights under the pants and then i can roll down hills of snow no problem.)

the nicest, most patient man in the russian federation just spent about half an hour explaining cell phone rates to me in russian, so i have a cell phone now, which is good because i haven't a phone in my dorm room. my number is: 8 (906) 078-6330. (8 is the country code)

I have slept 10 hours in the last 3 days, and have travelled many miles. That is all the update I can muster.
