Today I met John at the
Dali Museum in St. Pete. They're having a 100th bday celebration with a stunning exhibit of Dali's more pop-iconographic stuff as well as his commercial work. While some of the old Dali standards were hanging around, there were many paintings on display that we hadn't seen before, as well as monitors continuously playing several of the commercials that Dali apeared in, like for the Datsun 'luxury' wagon. Also they showed the animated short film 'Destino', a collaborative effort between Dali and Walt Disney...very cool--all of the images were that of Dali, but the animation was pure vintage Disney.
While we were looking at one painting, this loud woman standing very close to us said, 'I just don't get it. I wouldn't buy this! He was obviously on dope!' John and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes in unison. I swore to him that should that rude woman continue to ruin our artistic appreciation, I would say, 'Ma'am, could you please keep it down? We're trying to enjoy the artwork' but fortunately, someone must have tripped her or slit her throat in a dark corner cos we didn't see her (or hear her) again.
And THEN there was a woman who kept calling loudly to her husband, "Sven?!" Like she was in her own home. It was so irritating, but then jocular John started making fun of her by occasionally calling out "Sven?!" Which prolly got on the other patrons nerves, but it was still funny. And the final time he did it, he did not realize that the lady and Sven were literally standing right next to us, viewing the painting we had just moved from. He called out "Sven?!" and then noticed them, so we both just stared at the painting. Sven himself just looked and paid little attention, but the woman stared at us for a good long time (we could see her in our peripheral vision).
After that we went to dinner at a place called Jungle Prada, where Al Capone used to hang. It was okay...the food wasn't that impressive, but the patio was beautiful--surrounded by thick rows of trees and plants. And behind the restaurant, in an old apartment building, there was this adorable little courtyard, which corners looked like little ships, complete with crows' nests.
In the past few months, I have lost 20 pounds. Makes me happy.
