Chapter Three
SunHi skipped along her way, humming happily to herself. It wasn’t long before she reached the CUBE building. Pulling the door open, SunHi looked around as she made her all too familiar way to the small changing rooms located in the building. Pushing her way through another door, into the room, SunHi noticed the place was already littered with belongings, and came to the conclusion she was much later than all the others.
Frowning at the realization, knowing she’d probably be scolded for it, SunHi hurriedly made her way to one of the tiny lockers that occupied the walls. Setting down her prized white box on a nearby bench, she quickly opened the one that belonged to her and immediately snatched out her favorite pair of dance shoes. SunHi always left them there, so she’d always have them, in case of a random practice such as this one. Slipping her current pair of flats off, SunHi replaced them with the blue and pink high-tops, lacing them up and then shoving the flats inside the locker. The girl quickly abandoned the little backpack she had on her back, tossing it inside the locker as well.
“No time to change…” she remarked to herself, thinking of the much more comfortable t-shirt and sweat pants that resided in the bag. Sighing, she slammed the locker shut, retrieved her boxed cupcake and headed back into the small hallway.
Two doors down, SunHi rushed into the dance studio, where the song she was to be dancing to was already pumping through the speakers. Luckily, it wasn’t a full out practice just yet; there were just three of the backups practicing in the middle. SunHi discarded the box, for now, onto a table that had a few random things thrown on it… a book, a necklace, a CD, things that probably just ended up here due to the sudden scheduling of a practice and girls with no time to take their belongings home. Leaving the box, SunHi’s eyes expertly tracked down JunHyung, off in a corner talking with HyunAh.
He laughed. So did HyunAh. And a little twinge of jealousy caught SunHi for a brief moment when HyunAh reached over and touched JunHyung’s arm. Shaking her head, SunHi reminded herself there was no reason to worry about HyunAh getting in her way. SunHi remembered how HyunAh always gushed over none other than DooJoon. The 4Minute girl was so totally gone on DooJoon, there was no way she’d be even remotely interested in JunHyung. At this conclusion, SunHi smiled to herself and started walking toward a few of the other backup girls that were standing around, mingling.
“Hey” she said lightly as she approached the group. Taking her spot next to one girl in particular, SunHi grasped the girl’s arm and tugged at a scrunchie that resided on the girl’s wrist. SunHi pulled the little thing off and then grinned at the girl. “HyoRin, let me borrow this, ne?”
The girl known as HyoRin just laughed. “Don’t I always?” and she gave SunHi a little push. Stumbling back a bit, SunHi threw on an evidently fake pout as she looked to her friend. HyoRin just blinked at the girl. “Please, that face doesn’t work on me” she teased.
Dropping the pretend hurt act at the second, SunHi just shrugged and smiled as she pulled her hair up into a rather sloppy ponytail, tying it with the stolen scrunchie.
“Yah, SunHi… you make me sick,” HyoRin said suddenly, seriousness in her tone, but still a distinct playfulness on her face.
SunHi stared blankly at the girl. “Why?”
“Because,” the other said matter-of-factly, “even with your hair a complete mess like that,” she gestured to the messy state of the ponytail, “you’re still gorgeous.” HyoRin stuck her tongue out, and SunHi just grinned. “It’s not fair,” HyoRin added, poking SunHi in the side, causing the girl to let out a little yelp followed by a giggle.
---
That laugh… JunHyung looked up and away from HyunAh. His eyes scanned through the room until he found the source of that adorable giggle. Spotting SunHi, surrounded as usual by the other dancers, JunHyung turned back to HyunAh. “I’ma go say hey to SunHi,” he informed before trotting away from HyunAh toward the group that now looked like they were having a poke war. His lips curled into a smirk as the rapper came up swiftly behind SunHi, taking her completely by surprise as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her out of the mess of people. “Yo, SunHi,” was all he had to say before the girl whirled to face him.
“JunHyung Oppa!” SunHi answered, shooting him a pleasant smile.
JunHyung looked SunHi over for a second. “Took you long enough,” he said, eyeing the girl’s outfit over. “Really, SunHi, you didn’t have to get all dolled up just for dance practice,” he added, gesturing up and down the girl’s body, to her rather tight jeans and her cute and somewhat sparkly baby tee.
“I didn’t think I had time to change so-“ she began to explain, but found herself shortly cut off.
“Right, right” JunHyung waved a hand as if to dismiss the excuse. “Just admit you wanted to look cute for me” he finished, his casual arrogance in full play as he grinned smugly.
Oh my god! SunHi rolled her eyes at the rapper. “Oh yeah… puh-lease.” Sarcasm. He just said I look cute! “Who would bother to worry about looking cute just for you?” SunHi teased JunHyung back, a sparkle in her eyes as she held in the bit of glee from the man’s words. “Besides,” she continued coolly, “I look good no matter what I’m in.”
JunHyung chuckled as the girl jokingly served back her own arrogance. He had been trying for a while now to teach SunHi to be self confident. After all, if you wanted to be successful on stage, you have to be so. “That’s my girl,” he replied, pulling the girl again by wrapping an arm around her shoulders as he turned to walk off, taking SunHi alongside himself. “Let’s go find HyunAh so we can start this” he said, his eyes searching for HyunAh as the pair moved away from the rest of the dancers, who in turn, stared after them, the girls seething with envy.
SunHi was the only one out of all of them that the Beast member was like that with. Or, even spoke to really. But, it was because, well, SunHi was the only one of the dancers JunHyung knew, and credit to that went to the fact that she was friends with YoSeob and KiKwang, and even HyunAh and JiHyun. Due to her friends, she’d gotten to spend plenty of time getting to know the boys of Beast. And because of that SunHi was grateful… and the others were jealous.
---
HyunAh was now squatting in a corner, the same corner JunHyung had left her at actually; but due to her low position and the people crowding the dance studio, she seemed to disappear from the other’s sight. That was a fact that, at that point in time, was more than fine by her. HyunAh watched intently as JunHyung teased SunHi, and as SunHi shot right back at him. She watched as JunHyung wrapped his arm around the girl, playfully, yet affectionately. And she watched as both of their eyes brightened and faces lit up in each other’s presence. HyunAh knew what that sparkle in SunHi’s eyes meant; and she also knew that that usually unseen caring, goofy looking smile JunHyung was now wearing meant he reciprocated the feeling. This isn’t good… at all, HyunAh thought as she watched the pair maneuver through the studio.
Normally, HyunAh would have been happy for one of her friends in this situation, but not this time. It wasn’t jealousy, oh god no; HyunAh didn’t like JunHyung like that. Sure, he was cool and all, but HyunAh had her sights locked on someone else… which is precisely why HyunAh was silently objecting to any relationship forming between JunHyung and SunHi. In order to land her own man, which so happened to be the Beast leader, DooJoon, HyunAh needed SunHi. She needed a very much single SunHi.
Rolling her eyes as they took in the image of JunHyung messing up SunHi’s already sloppy hairstyle, HyunAh sighed and pushed herself to a standing position. She had intended to just ask her good friend to help her; but now, she got the feeling it was going to be harder than that. HyunAh made a vow to herself; DooJoon would be hers, and she would use whatever method she had to in order to make it happen.
Nodding to herself, HyunAh plastered on a smile and waltzed into the dead center of the room. Looking around for a moment, she finally called out, “Alright, since everyone’s here can we do this thing now?” and immediately everyone took their positions.
At the sound of HyunAh’s voice, JunHyung’s hands dropped from SunHi’s hair to his sides. The pair glanced at each other for a split second before parting to take their own spots, SunHi in the middle of the floor, and JunHyung off to the side to await his part. SunHi moved quickly through the room, putting her hair right (well, if you would really call that mess “right”) as she took her place. The silly little grin she’d acquired in the short time she’d been goofing around with JunHyung sat on her lips for a moment longer until the choreographer took his place at the front, ready and more than willing to dissect and point out everyone’s mistakes in order to make the dance perfect. After wishing everyone to do their best, he started the music. SunHi’s smile faded… it was time for business.
---
Knock knock.
That god-awful sound came at the door again, and YoSeob swore that sound was worse than any fangirl squeal he’d ever heard. YoSeob knew the moment was lost now, because DooJoon had completely frozen. Banging the backside of his head against the wall in frustration, YoSeob mumbled something that sounded like a few curses and the words “kidding me.”
DooJoon couldn’t make out exactly what YoSeob had said, but, somehow he knew he felt the same way as the blonde. After a moment, DooJoon finally backed away from YoSeob. He looked to the other apologetically as he raised a hand to rub the back of his neck. “We should probably go then,” he managed to say, not even bothering to try and cover the disappointment in his voice.
YoSeob looked to him blankly, slightly nodding his head. “Yeah.” That single word was all he said before making his way to the door. With a huff, YoSeob unlocked the door and swung it open to find himself staring at the source of his ruined kiss. He forced a smile; the lady had been kind enough to help them after all; but more than anything YoSeob wanted to tell her what a perfect thing she’d just interrupted. He held his tongue, though, as DooJoon followed him from the bathroom and they all made their way back into the dining portion of the building, DooJoon offering their thanks for the help and making a bit of small talk.
As DooJoon and the woman conversed, YoSeob made his way to the door, opened it and looked out. He stuck his head out only, and looked one way and the other, three times each, making sure there was no sign of the mob that had chased them in there. Satisfied, YoSeob pulled himself back inside and turned around to face the others. “Coast is clear” he piped up. He looked from DooJoon to the woman and gave a bow. “Thank you for looking after us. I’ll be going now.”
“Wait, Seob! You wanna get something to eat while we’re here?” DooJoon asked, turning his face to look at his companion.
YoSeob frowned at the question. “I’m not hungry anymore.” And with yet another bow, YoSeob pushed the door open, letting himself out of the little café.
DooJoon gazed after the blonde as the door swung shut behind him. Returning YoSeob’s frown to a now closed door, DooJoon spoke with the owner a moment more, with an apology, a thanks and a promise to return soon before he bowed and exited the building. His eyes immediately directed the way the pair had come, and landed on the back of YoSeob who hadn’t made it too far and was just rounding the corner. Making a little face at the whole ordeal, DooJoon started off after YoSeob, jogging as to catch up with the younger man.
---
“Food. Right. Hmph,” YoSeob mumbled as he shoved his hands in his pockets, his feet shuffling with the usual scuffing noise as he moved along. “Like I can really think about eating after that.” The boy had a rather sour look on his usually adorably charming face as he replayed the scene in his mind. It was so close… “Goddamnit.”
“Goddamn what?” DooJoon’s voice sounded.
YoSeob jumped as he heard the older male’s voice behind him and felt a hand land gently on his shoulder. “N-Nothing,” YoSeob squeaked, showing how startled he was.
“Right,” DooJoon said, disbelievingly, but he decided not to push the issue.
“It’s no big deal” YoSeob pressed on a bit defensively, but his tone calmer now as the boys fell in step with each other, making their way back to the dorm… once again, their trip drowned in awkward silence. After a while, the pair approached the door to their dorm, and without a word, they made their way inside.
---
For once, DooJoon welcomed the sound of a spastically laughing KiKwang, who was, with the help of DongWoon, picking on a defeated looking HyunSeung about what could only be the reason behind the horrid smell that greeted them as they entered.
DooJoon immediately cut through the dorm, heading straight toward the source of the noise, the kitchen. YoSeob, however, headed right off to the bedroom the six of them shared. DooJoon reluctantly decided to let YoSeob be for a while, and instead went into the kitchen to find HyunSeung, apron on, sitting at the table with his head in his hands and the other two boys standing over the stove, poking around in… something.
“HyunSeung?” DooJoon called to the younger male, a little caution holding his tone. “What’s going on?”
HyunSeung spread his fingers over his face, making two gaps for his eyes to peer through. Looking to DooJoon through his fingers, HyunSeung just shook his head. He didn’t want to talk about it… not that he would have had the chance to tell his story anyway, before KiKwang and DongWoon whirled around to look at the leader and took it upon themselves to run their mouths.
“We ran into JiHyun and JiYoon earlier,” DongWoon started, referring obviously to a couple of members of their company’s girl group 4Minute.
“We all decided we should have dinner together,” KiKwang piped up, helping the maknae tell the story.
“The girls suggested we go for pizza, but HyunSeung tried to impress them or something by volunteering to cook,” DongWoon continued, a dramatically grave expression on his face at the last words.
DooJoon snorted at this. They all knew HyunSeung’s specialty was definitely not cooking.
“He failed…” KiKwang said bluntly, laughing again.
“Miserably,” DongWoon gestured to the pan behind them with his thumb.
“Needless to say, the girls have gone to get some pizza.” KiKwang wrapped up the story and the two burst into another set of giggles.
The leader couldn’t help but let out a little chuckle, that he then tried to cover by clearing his throat. But it was no use, HyunSeung noticed it and shot a glare at the older man before folding his arms on the table and burying his face in them.
This set off a whole new wave of laughter from the two youngest boys as DooJoon walked over to HyunSeung and clapped a hand on the boy’s shoulder. “Aw, come on HyunSeungie. It’s not that big of a deal. At least you didn’t nearly burn the place down this time,” DooJoon said, trying to comfort HyunSeung, but doing a very poor job at it.
“Hyung?” KiKwang called through his laughter. “Where’s YoSeobie?”
DooJoon just pointed in the direction of the bedroom, and immediately the pair ran off, chattering as they exited the room. DooJoon supposed they were going to recruit YoSeob in their shenanigans, and DooJoon actually hoped to see a blonde ball of energy running through the dorm loudly soon. Hopefully the other two could cheer him up. In the meantime, DooJoon peered over at the stove. “I’m just gonna get rid of… that,” he mumbled to HyunSeung, who, in return, just grunted into his arms. Giving him a pat on the back, DooJoon went about disposing of the, well, whatever it was that HyunSeung had attempted to make and then proceeded in cleaning up the mess that had been made. DooJoon didn’t really feel like cleaning that moment; but he didn’t much like the thought of leaving the mess there for JunHyung to nag about when he got home.
As he finished up, DooJoon heard the sound of laughter and footsteps coming back their direction.
“Yeah, they should be back with the pizza soon,” he heard DongWoon say. It was followed by the wonderful sound of YoSeob’s laugh, and DooJoon sighed in relief, silently thanking the two maknaes.
“What was he trying to make anyway?” YoSeob’s voice questioned.
“Not sure, really,” KiKwang answered as the trio moved right in front of the door. Pausing at the entrance, KiKwang grinned at the form of HyunSeung still bent over the table. “It’s a… mystery, mystery. Mystery, mystery, “ KiKwang burst into song, quickly followed by the other two joining in to sing their own song through laughter as they went into the living room.
DooJoon heard a slapping sound, and looked to HyunSeung as he had slammed his hands against the table, pushing himself up and storming out of the kitchen in the direction of the now vacant bedroom. Shaking his head lightly, DooJoon had to grin. He was glad to hear YoSeob’s voice echoing happily through the dorm, even if it had come at poor HyunSeung’s expense.

A/N: Soooo yeah, with this posted, I have LJ up to date with my thread in B2R
-just in case a few of you were wondering-
Anyway, the bad thing about that is...
now you all actually have to wait a few days for an update >_<
I'll work as quickly as I can considering homework and work and such.
This chapter, obviously, wasn't as "interesting/juicy/etc" as the last, but... needed story line is needed. x3
Hope you all enjoyed it anyway~ ♥
Oh && btw, I probably should have put this in with the first set of A/N on the first chapter,
but I figured that the "summary" or w/e would have tipped everyone off~
this story isn't gonna be all happy-go-lucky DooSeob...
It's gonna be "angsty" and all that happy fun shit.
I hope you all still read and can enjoy it, && I apologize in advance to anyone who was hoping for fluffy cuteness and such. T_T (though there will be some... but yeah)
