a little bit of this and a little bit of that

Friday we took off for Columbus for our first regatta of the year. Thankfully I was in the van that left at 1pm rather than the others who left at 5:30. Vans rides are always a lot of fun. You get a chance to meet new people, the novice, and just goof around in a confined area. :-) Traveling with our coach Keith always comes with some entertainment as well. Our van got the joyful task of rigging up most of the boats when we got there. It was actually kind of fun, I can't believe I just said that was fun. There was a small group of us so things were done efficiently. The novice are so awesome too!! They were so helpful and attentive the entire weekend.
Saturday we raced in the morning but by the afternoon the wind was so bad that conditions were unsafe and the regatta was called. I did have one race, which all in all, I wasn't to happy with but oh well. I guess I can't always have good races. I'm just so competitive that it kills me inside to not have a good race. Plus I didn't have the A four this weekend which is the girls that I've been with since our Freshman year. It's just hard to see them bonding with another cox. Oh well, there will be plenty of other regattas. :-)
A friend of mine who I went to Tech school with in TX lives in West Virgina. He drove eight hours to see me and when he got there we found out the regatta was called. I feel bad for him because he drove all that way and didn't even get to see rowing in action. I did get a cool medic bag and huge oversize cowboy hat out of the deal, which I would like to add, driving with that thing on can get you some amusing looks. Thankfully we were back around 10pm on Saturday making for a full nights rest. Sunday I went to church, which was awesome as usual, and did some studying. Monday I usually have time to study at work but I was busy the entire 5 hours. I felt really behind today so I did a lot of scrambling to achieve my peaceful equilibrium again. I'm there, so that's good. :-)
I went out for a nice ride all by myself on my bike and averaged about 20 miles an hour, which is great for being alone and doing some of it against the wind. I made Dane a delicious crab alfredo and then we went up to Kirkoff and had icecream. He offers me so much insight and perspective on things going on in my life that it's no wonder I want to tell him everything! It's great getting a chance to step away from the school things and spend some quality time together. I love that kid so much. We met eachother three years ago this week. Craziness!
Well I'm going to do some reading and head off to bed a little bit early tonight.
I hope everyone is maintaining their mind frame with it being midterm week.
Smoocho loochos!
