Moon watching...

Jupiter is now at its closest to the Earth in our life times, the last time it was this close, was in 1951. You can see the 4 moons with a low grade binoculars. Around midnight, it will be straight over head, and the brightest star in the sky ( Read more... )

Yeah, I noticed the moon last night, though I don't have any binoculars handy.

Think about it... why else would the feds plant a microwave tower up here? And from that vantage point you can see DC including the National Cathedral (the other highest point in the area). I live just a block from that microwave tower so yes I'd say its a pretty high elevation.

The problem is that there's a tremendous amount of light (and other) pollution up there.

For really good viewing there's nothing like the mountains though. Milky Way, star clusters, meteor showers, planets and the entire universe laid out before you. You can even see M31 with the naked eye if you know where to look.
