Experience at a country pub

Apr 29, 2007 22:33

Went up to the farm yesterday to meet up with Sibylle and the folks that I'll be going to Ireland with. After a bit of dinner we head out to the local pub for a few pints.

I wasn't expecting much, as I've come to not expect much of most pubs, but I was pleasantly surprised as they had Adnams Broadside on tap.

So, I walk up and order a Magners with ice for desertrowan and a pint of Adnams for myself.
I got a bit of a funny look, and was asked to repeat myself. So I did. The woman got the Magners and then, with a very concerned look on her face, asked if I was sure, had I ever had it before, etc?

I didn't ask for clarity, but the impression I got was that someone under 40, and especially someone under 40 AND with a non-English accent, ordering an ale rather than a lager, was a relatively rare occurrence in them there parts (still London btw, but rural London)

It made me smile.
