I'm one quarter of the way through
that 100 films in 2009 challenge meme thing - so only a bit behind target for the year, right? The last film I saw was
Max and Mary, which I urge everyone to go and see, if you can. If any film and filmmaker deserves to be successful, I think it's this film and Adam Elliot. The amount of work that has gone into that film is just amazing - stop-motion animation is such a labour of love and it shows on every frame. It's beautiful. And funny. And it's a moving story too. It's quite refreshing to see a film in which one of the main characters is fat and has a mental illness (Aspergers), when (it feels like) such a large proportion of films out there give you protagonists with the "default body" (straight, white, cis-gendered, not-fat, able-bodied, sane, etc). It's nice to see a bit more of the spectrum of human experience portrayed. And it's Australian, to boot! Highly recommended.
