My Prelude to Prelude

Wow.

We were given six minutes and forty seconds to rip the stage and show everyone who Wrawsome was all about. Throughout the whole process prior to that moment, we had been working long hours, casting pieces, stressing over clothes, and waiting for our time to shine at Prelude just like every other dance company out there. However, we did have something that most groups didn't have-- the element of surprise. We were the new kids on the block. The newbies. The n00bs. The Prelude virgins. No one really knew who we were or what kind of group we would be. After those six minutes and forty seconds were up, people knew.

Though we didn't place at this years Prelude, I am hungrier than ever to come back and take this whole shindig. I was walking around during intermission and I stumbled into Rictor, one of the judges for Prelude. When he saw me, all he could say was, "YOU FUCKING ROCKED IT DUDE!" As he was saying that, he kept pushing me around like one of those friends who keeps pushing you after you just dunked on someone hella hard. It was almost surreal hearing these props from such an accomplished dancer in the circuit. Everyone was telling me that we got the crowd most hyped out of everyone which brought a smile to my face.

Yet, the defining moment that made me realize that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life was when I was on that stage, dancing. I'm not gonna lie, it felt REALLY good to be right there performing in front of family, friends, and even enemies. For some reason, I was never really nervous prior to performing. I was more.. ready if you will. As soon as I stepped unto that stage, I felt at home. Every worry that I had outside of the dancing became obsolete. Nothing mattered to me anymore. For a lack of a better explanation, I just danced. It was truly and utterly one of those outer-body experiences.

I want to congratulate Prophecy and Main stacks for placing 1st and 3rd. However, I want to give a special shout-out to Haluan for grabbing 2nd. Next to Wrawsome, this is the next group who I've spent most of my time with. Not dancing with them, but being around them and just getting to know them not just as dancers, but as individuals. And I must say, these people are the fucking dopest ever and I couldn't be more proud of these fools for placing. Personally, I really think they deserved 1st. HALU-WHAT? HALUAN!! (I just had to haha)

Overall, this experience at Prelude was an unbelievable one. And I couldn't be more proud of our team. For a group of no names to just show up out of nowhere and make people turn heads is rewarding enough. This is only the beginning for us. The coming out party is over. Now it's time to really work.
