Text Out of Context

I had breakfast with a certain somebody this morning. And this certain someone who shall remain nameless did something which caught my eye. First off, I'm one to notice little nuances here and there with certain people. I think I might have gotten this observant curiosity for my surroundings from Kristalyn (which BTW, I miss you dearly). However I'm digressing so back to the story at hand.

I saw this person constantly texting throughout our whole time together. It wasn't anything of big importance, but this person's actions did give off some sort of message to me. Now, I'm not one to say that texting is horrid. I enjoy texting just as much as the next person. The only thing with me is that I'm not an avid texter. I'm usually caught texting other people back rather than being the initial texter. And in this case, this person was holding up long conversations through text as if he or she's life depended on it. It was utterly interesting to me.

The thing with texts is that we all know how it works. Once we hear that message tone, our heads go down, fingers are locked to the keypad, and everything around you becomes obsolete. What's quite unfortunate is that when it's just two people engaged in actual interaction and that person you're with gets a text, you incidentally become the third wheel. And now you're left not feeling so special anymore because all that persons attention is now towards who he or she is texting to. Your awareness becomes idle while your focus is what's in front of your phone screen rather than actually interacting with that person who is ACTUALLY there. It's quite interesting to say the least if you think about it.

Anyhoo, this morning proved to be quite the experience for me.
Maybe I should text someone about this.
