... Now I'm hot, they all on me!
Oh how I love Mike Jones!
Anyways. Hi! Right now it is totally my 3rd day of work (4th day in Charlotte). I am sitting in the conference room (internet in my cube is down) on the 8th floor of Bank of America's Corporate Center building in downtown Charlotte. I am in the process of going through a tutorial about the software I will be using for one of my projects this summer and just generally organizing my work. My first day was Monday. We had an intern overview thingy in the morning, then my manager took me out to lunch. When we got back, he briefed me on the projects (and my part in them) and then his assistant showed me my desk and stuff. So far, I really like it here. I don't have to wear a for real business suit everyday, just business-y enough (think black pinstripe capris, a white tank top, a black short blazer, and black pumps). Every morning I get up at 7 or so, shower and dress and try to leave by 8:30 at the latest. It takes me about 15 minutes to drive downtown (I take the roads instead of the highways or else it would take about 40 minutes to an hour). I park my car in the cheapest lot I can find ($3.50 per day) and walk about 6 blocks to my building. The walk is one of my favorite parts of the day. Although it has been extremely hot and humid here, I enjoy that time spent outside with the sun on my shoulders and my sunglasses on.
Weird Fact #1 - My cell phone works PERFECTLY in my office building but TERRIBLY in my place of residence.
Speaking of my place of residence... *sigh*. I am at UNCC living in a dorm. Like a for real deal dorm with swipey card access and a 24-hour front desk. I live in an apartment with 4 single rooms, a kitchen, and a living area, similar to my UMBC apartment that I loved for 3 years. I have 2 roommates right now, and a third is schedules to move in eventually. Jessica is a rising senior at Liberty College in Lynchburg, VA who is doing a sports management internship with the Charlotte Bobcats. Melissa from Alabama just finished her first year at Harvard Law and is interning with a law firm in downtown Charlotte. She might be leaving us soon though cause her firm is gonna pay for her housing closer to the job. That's ood for her cause she works like 13-hour days and sometimes on the weekends. And she's not even an hourly employee, so she doesn't get overtime. They're both mad cool and Jessica and I have already had *fun* staying up really late the night before last when we should have been sleeping before work. So, at 3:17pm yesterday, I officially ran out of steam. All I could think about was how badly I wanted to sleep and how BADLY it would look to be asleep at my desk. Needless to say, I will be going to bed MUCH earlier than what I am used to in order to have to function at somebody's workplace from 9-5. My internet connection is not working in my room, so I am suffering from IM withdrawal. I hope they fix it soon.
Weird Fact #2 - I just may be the oldest person living in the "intern wing" (as I have dubbed it) in Squires at UNCC.
So I have initiated Phase 1 of "Sabrina Slim-Down Summer 2005". I went grocery shopping at the 24-hour Harris Teeter and bought food that was all either good for me, or low in fat and calories. I am NOT eating lunch out, I am bringing my food to work. I am NOT picking up dinner on my way home, I am cooking and eating at home. I am drinking only water (sometimes Powerade). And I will not eat after 9:30pm no matter what. These rules apply Sunday night - Friday afternoon. The weekend is fair game for eating out (within reason) and consuming alcoholic calories (my fave kind). As soon as I am a little more settled (probably tonight), I plan to initiate Phase 2, which is a regular exercise program. Cardio-kickboxing M/W and Weight-Training clss Tu/Th. Capoeira on Sunday. Running 3 miles on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. Then on June 28th, my dance classes start. Jazz and then Hip-Hop on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Throw in a 15-minute crunch and push-up routine M/W/F and a day of extreme rest on Saturday and hopefully you will see a more fit Sabrina in September. Ya'll pray for me that I will be able to keep this up for the entire summer and that it shows results like I want it to.
Weird Question #1 - Is it just me or does it seem like lunchtime comes very soon after you get to work, but leaving time is not at all close to the end of lunch? Possibly I get to work too late...
Yesterday it poured down raining the minute I left my building. By the time I got to my car 6 blocks away, I was SOAKED. But lucky for me, my clothes and I are all water-proof and it was still warm even whe it was raining. Or at least it wasn't cold. But it is supposed to do that again today. Yick.
