Well, the last couple of days have been fairly busy. Yesterday was a long shift at work: I was there from 10:30 until 01:00, so I didn't get home until 03:45. I then got about 4 hours of sleep, and managed to drag myself out of the flat this morning. After work this evening I was off to SJA duty, to spend a romantic evening with thousands of screaming football fans... Still, it was fairly quiet from a first aid point of view, which is what I hope for at these events.
When I was at Selhurst a couple of weeks ago they were talking about their centenary wall (it has a big mural painted on it), and they mentioned that they were selling off "centenary bricks". I can't link directly to the relevant webpage, but if you go to their
shop, then click on "Centenary" on the left, then "Centenary Brick" on the right, you can see their selection. The guy on the tannoy suggested that this would make a good Valentine's present, but I can't help feeling that this is a case of wishful thinking... So much so, in fact, that I'm going to do a comic about it! I've written the script, and roughed out a storyboard (2 pages of stick figures), so I'll try to get that redrawn/scanned/etc. tomorrow evening.
As for V-day in general, it's hasn't really affected me much. Being single, I'm not celebrating it, but I'm not getting all bitter and twisted about it either. I'd say that it's the equivalent of Chinese New Year - I'm aware that it's happening, and that some other people are making a big deal out of it, but it doesn't really make any difference to my normal routine.
Mind you, I did get a fake Valentine's card from Sky: delivered today, in a red envelope, with the name/address printed in a font that resembles handwriting. The card had a red heart on the outside, and the words "true love..." underneath; on the inside, it continues "... is giving someone you care about a FREE Sky+ box." Speaking for myself, I just think that's really tacky, but it could be a bit cruel to other people if it raises hopes and then dashes them. Ah well, no matter.
Anyway, bedtime...
