It hadn't occurred to me until just now, but this is also as the G8 are holding their summit on poverty in Scotland. Is this significant? I don't know, frankly. I also can't presume to have any special insight into the minds of those responsible, but if it is significant, and there is some connection both with the G8 summit and the Olympic announcement, then...
This is viciousness, I suppose. Actually, it's not even viciousness. It's pettiness. It's possible, of course, that this has nothing to do with either, or both events. The timing, though, is too close for that. You have to wonder at the sort of mentality that'd plan something like this. It's too complicated a subject for me to be able to discuss without going to considerable length, and frankly, I'm not sure I want to.
