I finished 'Infinite Ryvius' the other day. I have to say I was luke warm about it at first but I ended up really liking it. It's far from the typical "high schoolers in space fight evil" and more along the lines of "people in power often screw up, even when they have the best intentions." Also, they do a good job developing the secondary characters, and the science, though far from "hard sci-fi" standards, is internally consistent for the most part. Good enough for suspension of disbelief at least.

In other news, I finally figured out why I thought my Cisco class sucked. I mean, I can deal with the couple of mistakes (on every page) but what had really been getting to me was the fact that we were learning about technology that hadn't been used since the mid '90s. Then it hit me: They plan to send us back in time to the middle of the 1990s as soon as we get our CCNAs! Of course! It makes so much sense now. It must have been far easier to construct a time machine than to keep a text book up to date. And in the '90s our skills were-will be in high demand. We'll be right in time to have a couple years of experience in net adminning under our belts when the tech boom did-will hit. Frankly, this is making me a lot more excited getting my CCNA. In 1995 I'll know about all the cutting edge technology, have uncanny insight into what stocks to watch, and I'll be on top of all the latest trends in fashion (colored windbreakers! grunge!) and music. It would all work out so well too, except for one thing: If Cisco can't program a sane operating system to save their lives, how can I trust them to alter my temporal coordinates in space-time?! Ah, well...I guess I'll just have to get a net admin job in the present and hope no one notices that Cisco's curriculum was 11 years out of date the day I got my CCNA...
