Would like to give a big congratulations to all SCHS band members on making semi-finals. I'm sure you guys will do great there.
Midterms were released this morning...these are my grades:
Student Recital - Pass
Performance Class - Pass
Private Trumpet - B
Marching Band - A
MSU 101 - A
Writing 1 - C
Class Piano - I
Music Theory 1 - A
Music Reading 1 - A
Trumpet Ensemble - A
Symphony Band - A
Jazz Ensemble - A
Not so bad, but I wanted B's and A's only. I didn't turn in all my work for Writing 1...but Mr. Lake said that the grades he has in right now are only 35% of the grades for the entire semester, so we still have 65% more to go, and that if we got A's on all of the assignments from now on, we would most likely get an A for the class if we got a passing grade on this 'midterm'.
No one in my piano class has finished the mid-term test, so we don't have a completed mid-term grade right now.
As for Private Lessons...that B is my own fault. Mr. Wing got mad at me last week because I wasn't prepared for my graded lesson (which are every other week). I made an A on my first lesson but he gave me a high C last week, so I have a high B in Private Trumpet. I'm going to practice my ass off to get an A in my graded lesson next week, and the rest of the semester.
Writing 1 and Private Trumpet are 3 credit hours each, so they're pretty heavily weighted. I definitely need to bring those up.

Anyways...

I watched the video of you guys, Sheldon Clark, and it was really good. MY favorite part was when you guys intersect going different directions near the end of the show. Everyone was in step and stepping on the beat. You could see all of your legs moving at the same time and such, and it looked really visually appealing. MARCH LIKE THAT MORE OFTEN!!!
Oh, and someone tell Greg to stop playing out of tune and out of the ensemble.
Later.
PS - Trumpets, I'm coming to Martin County on the weekends of November 5th and 12th, if you want a lesson with me both weekends (especially those of you trying out for all-state....Kyle, Justin, Carrie...YOU ARE TRYING OUT, GET OVER IT, THEYRE JUST 16TH NOTES...). Play the all-state music really, really slow at first. You can't start out playing it fast. Even I can't. I take the tempo at about 60 or so to begin with. Get the notes under your fingers and the MUSIC in your head, then speed it up as you can play it well.
I'm currently in the process of learning about chord progressions in music theory 1, and I'm writing a 3 part warm-up for trumpet that will sound really neat (a lot better than all the crap I've tried writing before, because now I actually know how to write parts, and what chords sound like what, etc.). It's just called "F Warm-Up", because that's basically all it is, a warm-up in concert F.
Hopefully Michelle will let us use the band room for lessons and a 'brass day' type thing on one of the Saturdays I come in. Or at least a trumpet afternoon.
Well, gotta go to MSU 101. Bleh.
Later.
