More good news on the trumpet front! I tied for 4th in scores for the National Trumpet Competition Auditions. This means I made the 8 person ensemble that gets to go to Fairfax, Virginia in March and compete in the National Trumpet Competition =) This also means that with a bad audition I got 4th in the department! It was awesome.

Here are the scores by memory:

1. Jessica Crittendon - 90
2. Frances Lotz - 83
3. John Motz - 80
4. John Crum - 77
5. Matt Anklan - 77
6. Jay Matheney - 76
7. Ryan Mussetter - 73 or something
8. Ricky Spears - 70

Alternate - Eric Sierveld - 69

I quit Phi Mu Alpha's probationary member process. I also think I might be able to host Sheldon Clark on Saturday. It's not for sure, but it's a good possibility. I really hope so. So I may just get to host you guys on Saturday anyways! And if so, that means I'll have ample time afterwards to show you around Baird if you want ;)

It should be awesome. We have the 3rd song on the field playing now, with the drum break. The percussion break ROCKS. Except for the fact that we march backwards in a huge block, and two bass drums are coming forward passing through the block on either side of me, 2 steps from me on each side. If I'm not exactly in the middle I DIE. =/

Ride of the Valkyries is definately my favorite song. It's high, fast, loud, has a nice beat, and has awesome drill. Plus, once again, in the hard drill moves, I stand in place and mark time, lol.

ATTENTION: Here are some easy ways to spot me on the field during blue and gold: Always looks for the trumpet/mellophone line. We generally stick together, but remember that I will not be with the other first trumpets that much throughout the show. I don't know why, but if you hear a bunch of 1st trumpets playing on group, I'm not with them, probably.

When you're facing the field, I start marching in a block from the LEFT towards the center. I stay left of the 50 the entire 1st song, pretty much. The 2nd song I march backfield, and end up on the right side of the field most of the time. In Ride of the Valkyries, the 3rd song, I stay on the right side of the field most of the time.

A good way to spot me is during Ride of the Valkyries percussion break, we are in a huge block, and we do a sort of snake drill. Some people stand still, and I'm one of them. If you're facing the field, I'm in the line furthest to the right, and I'm the 2nd trumpet back who stands still. Simple. Other than that, just look for me in general, and listen for a 1st trumpet by himself for the most part ;)

Hope I get to guide you guys. It should be awesome. Hopefully everything turns out OK in the way of people getting to go or not.

Back to more homework.
