Why are there so many retards in the world? (Disclaimer: This is related and unrelated to my Brandon entry.)
This is going to be a very short rant, but I can't stand stupid people, and mentally handicapped people annoy me. Mostly because they're probably from the product of stupid mothers who smoke, drink, or do drugs while pregnant. Maybe all three.
For the rare cases that were just born that way, I think it's stupid that they have to be included in everything, else it's 'prejudice'. For example, last year, I saw a marching band with some dumbass 'assistant field commander' standing beside the podium. He looked like he didn't know what the hell he was doing and was flailing his arms about everywhere. Then I realized: he's 'mentally handicapped' (a.k.a. retarded). No doubt a product of his school system making the band allow him in such a mentally and physically rigorous activity. Then, kudos to the band director, instead of having him try to play an instrument, they give him the job of 'assistant drum major'. Mentally handicapped people need to realize something (this is actually where it becomes a problem, as they don't understand much of anything): They can't do everything normal people can.
Also, I've always wondered something. Do they realize they are mentally handicapped? Wouldn't it suck to be a retarded 8 year old kid, watching TV with not a care in the world. Then you see something on the Discovery channel (or some educational shit like that, because your parents want you to magically get smarter by watching things you obviously don't understand) about mentally handicapped kids. They look and act like you, and you see nothing wrong with it. After about 15 minutes of long thought processes that hurt your brain, you finally make a connection.
That would suck some serious nuts.
My other pet peeve is people that are stupid just because they don't have the desire to try and harder. I mean, what is with all of those stupid kids in the special education classes that shouldn't be in there? Sure, most of them are stupid, but some of them shouldn't even be in there. They're only there because they have no pride and would rather be considered a fucking retard so they can take easy classes rather than be 'challenged' by the 'oh so hard' classes at SCHS. Then there are the special ed. teachers, who are almost as dumb as the students. One of the 'special class' teachers at SCHS could be rivaled in intelligence by some elementary school students I know (they combined one of my SS classes with her 'special' SS class). I don't even remember that woman's name, but she was probably the most stupid teacher I've ever met. Hell, they even have some kids that shouldn't be in the special classes that don't even want to be in them. It is a sad system.
Now, onto more important things.
It seems as though Michelle has picked out SCHS' field show for this upcoming year. It is a packaged show from MS concepts called "Fantasmic". The music is actually pretty decent (and moderately hard, although I am very confident that the trumpet line will have it down pat by band camp, after seeing the 1st trumpet part). I'm glad I'm getting a music score before vacation, it will allow me to memorize all of the brass parts over vacation in preparation for band camp. I've already figured out how I'm going to divide up sectional time to make it more efficient. I'll probably have to work more with the low brass, but I know that this year I'm going to bring low brass and trumpets together during sectionals so that we can see what it sounds like as an entire brass section before we bring the entire band together.
I'm really excited about the beach. I'm going shopping Tuesday to get some clothes for it, and some other stuff I'll need to take, like a crate of sunscreen.
Morehead announced their field show for this year. It's entitled, "A Night At The Opera", and we'll be playing music from "Phantom of the Opera", "Der Walkure", "Tosca", and "Tommy". It sounds pretty cool, although, I still haven't got my music for the fight song, alma mater, or star spangled banner. I'm going to call the music department on Monday. I need to ask about the band shirt and stuff anyways, and what else I need to send in before August.
I'm in major marching band mode right now. I can't wait for Friday to come. Then it's going to be 3 crazy weeks ahead of me. I've also decided that I need to definately start getting in shape more. I want to get skinny, not only for myself, but so I can meet the physical demands of Drum Corps. This fall/winter I might try out for the following corps: The Cavaliers (for experience and to get to know what their audition process is like for future auditions), the Madison Scouts (I might actually have a chance of making this corps if I do well enough), and the Bluecoats (out of these three I have the best chance of getting into this one). And hey if none of them want me, I'm going to try out for either Southwind or Capital Regiment. I'm fairly sure I could make either one of these corps. My goal is to make the Cavaliers by the time I age out. The Blue Devils or Santa Clara Vanguard would be possibilities for my goal as well, if they weren't both located in California. And I'm just not a big fan of Phantom Regiment (also in Illinois, like the Cavaliers).
But hey anyways, it's almost time for me to go to bed. I'm trying to get on a different sleep schedule. I've been staying up too late lately, and I don't want to be on a weird sleep schedule when I go to the beach.
