The mystery of xbox live arcade game saves.

I got a new Hard Drive for my 360 and started re-downloading everything to my console. Now, this is fine and dandy, but many of my arcade games don't have a save file. Instead, there's only a game file, which I assume integrates the game save with the game data.

Well now, South Park was one such game without a separate save file. It clocks in at about 800MB, which means there was no way I could throw it on my 512 card and toss it to the new hard drive. So, I re-downloaded it to my console and decided to check... and for some reason it transferred over my save.

How?

This was a fresh download from the internet on a fresh hard drive. Is the save stored online? In the inner workings of the xbox itself? I decided to check splosion man, as well. AND same thing! Still on level 3-2 with a fresh online copy. No save file to be seen.

What is going on?
