Applied to the Unversity of Alabama, the University of Georgia, Berry College, and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Tulane University and Converse College are still pestering me to apply, but I don't think I will.
The University of Alabama. Good sized school. Relatively small, in company with the next two. It's the Capstone. They love them some me. It's "close to home," but would definitely feel like college. There are a lot of honors opportunities, and a lot of accompanying perks, not just in the monetary department, either. I'm enrolled in both the University and International Honors Programs thusfar. I've applied to the Computer-Based Honors Program. Amazing opportunity with that. I was rejected as a finalist for the University Fellows Experience, but David and I are pretty sure that's just a minority ploy anyway. So no outlandish stipend. The facts still stand though, that if I end up a National Merit Finalist by a week or two from now, they'll have offered a total of $52,312 across 4 years. That's split up across tuition, housing, a travel or research grant, and a merit add-on.
The University of Georgia. Big school. Unique campus, and just feels really...college-y. Renowned for their international aspects. However, I would be limited to an Arts and Sciences career in Mathematics. Is that a bad thing? Mom went there, and they're nice enough. But they aren't all about them some me...quite. After a polite elimination from the runnings for the Foundation Fellows and Bernard Ramsey Scholarships, they've made another offer, comprised of a Regents Waiver of Out-of-State Tuition and a small merit add-on, totaling $58,304 across 4 years.
The Georgia Institute of Technology. Really big school. "The ECE staff at Georgia Tech is larger than the entire staff here at Tuscaloosa," said Dr. Jackson. A technical school is the place for an engineer, right? Maybe. It's smack in the middle of Atlanta. I like Atlanta, I like cities. But do I like them controlling my college? Given size and reputation, Tech comes through with being ontop of the technologically advanced game. So far, they've simply rejected me from the Presidential Scholarship competition, and differed me to the Financial Aid application.
Berry College. Amazing campus. Very small school. Very. Very Berry. Private (which = expensive). Lots of deer. I feel as though it would be impossible to not have a very personal education there. Again, here's turning me into a mathematics or physics major. I'd probably feel a lot more something, because I'd most likely be working on campus. I just barely...haven't even been accepted there yet, so there's not too much to say.
Total estimated cost of attendance, based on average costs of fees, books, etc., and tuition and boarding rates for the 2006-2007 year, and on current or hopeful scholarship offers:
UA: -$1,880
UGA: $44,448
GT: $77,696
BC: $104,456
All that college out there. And I'm still here working my ass off for a useless International Baccalaureate Diploma. Back to Biology...
Meh. I'm lovin' it. I've got all of you. Especially you.
Mrow.
